FLW/KBF Cup was an absolute grind, but I will say Lake Ouachita is a beautiful body of water.

I try to work on improving a couple of techniques that are new to me or I don’t have a lot of confidence each season. This year one of them is the wacky rig. Confidence is improving.

Fishing Pics / Big ugly drum

Caught my personal best black drum while I was in Florida doing some sonar charting. Port St. Joe/Mexico Beach was devastated by Hurricane Michael last year and it changed what the charts look like.

Navionics will be releasing an update for the Hot Maps, and Platinum cards in May. The update will include depth shading and 3D underwater relief mapping at no cost to active subscribers with Hot Maps or Platinum cards. The roll out for this will be in the US first, with other countries to follow this summer. If you have any questions, please feel free to shoot me an email. jlack@navionics.com

Fishing Pics / Diverse

The Louisiana marsh is a diverse ecosystem. I caught a largemouth, stingray, and redfish within 150 yards of each other.

First tournament of the year and less than an hour in, one of the guys in my group gets swamped by a bass boat tournament launching out of the same ramp. Fortunately the only thing lost was a couple of rods, and a little time.

General Fishing Tips / The change up
« on: March 21, 2019, 06:25:35 AM »
This time of year I usually fish a shallow slough and catch decent fish. I’ve thrown the same bait in this area for a few years and it has produced some personal bests for me. I’m a firm believer in reproducibility, so I keep good notes, use the same tackle/line/rod and reel. Weather is tracking about where it has for the last few years, water levels and water temps are on track as well. Something has changed though, what I usually do hasn’t been working so I decided to change it up a bit. I changed my bait, changed my line size, and presentation. Here’s the results...

Fishing Pics / Alabama rig fishing
« on: December 21, 2018, 05:55:08 AM »
Got out on one of my favorite lakes in Alabama and did some A-Rig fishing. Water temp was 47 degrees, fish were hanging right on the edge of a line of milfoil in 8-9 feet of water. I was throwing parallel to the grass line in about 10 feet of water. Biggest fish was 22 inches.
