Reliable sources reported a big improvement in the halibut and striper action ARW.  At least two 30 plus inch butts were caught from shore the other day.  I'm predicting that the winning handline fish will be over 34" which will be way bigger the 1st place fish I caught for TLA's 2023 ARW King of the Wall tournament. :smt003

awesome news!

Gears all loaded, cant wait to get on the water again!!

Shucks we'll see you there!

So I have I a question, I know this is a casual event but Glen is it acceptable to catch bait from the kayak with a conventional rod and reel and then transfer it to the hand line or do we need to fish exclusively with a hand line in order to be eligible to win all the glory?

Sorry; can not have a rod and/or Reel (spinning or conventional) on board the kayak.

I'm using a handline reel to catch bait, if needed.

I'll be there even if I don't bring my kayak to see some some of my NCKA family.

Brah, bring the yak, and the grill; lets do dogs on the water!

4
email my waiver and reg forms; will pay dues this weekend at the Handline MBF & Chill

Thanks for putting this event on again!

Sorry guys for the lack of responses,  just got back from a 4 week vacay abroad.

This will be a super casz  gathering with Handlining friends hunting halls and strippers...

$10 MBF collection will be 7am or earlier, however, anyone that participates will be included for the 1st Place custom hand-craved Handline reel.

Any questions, give me a shout!

Glen

CA Regulations / Re: Nonlead Ammunition
« on: January 12, 2024, 06:45:22 PM »
If anyone has any suggestions for reliable lead-free 22lr let me know! I'm close to giving up and just getting a PCP for small game (as if I could justify the cost).

I dont believe Lead-free applies to rimfire caliber ammo... but I could be wrong....

Craftsmen's Corner / Re: Windsurfer mast for Hobie AI project...
« on: January 07, 2024, 01:48:02 PM »
However, the windsurfer mast seems to be slightly skinnier in diameter (1mm or less) than the official Hobie mast.

Windsurf mast are design to flex at the tip of the mast, to create a foil in the sail....

Never fished hand line....So who has handline spools for sale?

Just found spool authentic handline spools: $25 for the 8", $23 for the 7".

This sounds fun!  I've been considering getting a handline reel for sabiki work anyway - always looking for a better solution for catching live bait.  Seems like this would really well for that.

Do you use a round spool type or the longer, stick type?  Hopefully that description makes sense, haha.

Whats the %of people who catch halibut/striper sometimes I struggle with a $400 reel/rod combo and live bait/sex herring troll :smt044

Handlining any species is a blast!! and yes, we've caught strippers and butts in the bay with them too... Handlining for Lings is f'ng wild; which we used to due the day before Albion Tournys...

Probably quite a rush, fishing one of those deep for something big and toothy like a ling!

Yup! Ask Yakhopper; he heard me scream'n and laughing, and we were on opposite side of the Albion cove!

And yes, loss ratio is a lot high on larger species...

So who has handline spools for sale or do you just get them from Amazon now?

I still got a few somewhere in the shop; let me go see if I can dig them out....

April 20th, nice day to choice. I need to fish this.

I kinda still remember how to fish.... and hopefully, the best time to spend on the water.
