Got to the launch around 8ish and after gearing up hit the water. Not sure what time. Anyway the company was great, the fishing was ok (four dinks for me) and the weather was warm but windy. Most of us seemed to manage a few small fish but someone got the winner!

Fun day!
I got out of bed but still hadn't packed my tackle....bad mistake. Running around the house with my head cut off. Decided to pack yet another rod. That made 6. Still didn't seem like enough.
Actually made it to the lake in good time, arriving at around 7:45.
Lots of guys already there, but one thing was completely upsetting. The lake was virtually whitecapping at 8am! The wind was a constant annoyance all day.
We ended up with 13 contestants and everyone got their fish on at 8:30. I hung out in the parking lot for a bit to see if any straglers showed up and I was on the water by 8:45.
The fishing was less than superb, but the dinks were biting. I caught 3 fish and together they might have made legal.
The first fish I caught on the winning drop shot lure from the Loch Lomond tourney. First cast with dropshot and I don't think the weight even hit the bottom before the little guy hit it.
The second fish I got on the troll with shad rap.
The third fish was captured using a small 3/8oz jig with double tail. This fish was pretty hilarious. In full view of Bill and another guy whose name I forget I got bit on the jig while I was diddling with something on my boat. In a panick I attempted to set the hook and ended up almost tossing my rod overboard! Finally got control of the rod and felt no weight.......I was sure that the fish was gone but looked to my right into the water and saw this little green missile shooting to the surface with my jig is his mouth. Got him to the boat and after all the drama landed a 8" fish....
I fished up to the end, but no dice. The wind was working against me all day.
Smack talk on the radio had its ups and downs. Mooch needs to learn how to talk it up!
At the end of the day we only weighed 4 fish :smt009

Adam Coca Fishhunter 1 fish 1# 1oz.
Scott and Mike Gee Great Bass2 2 fish 14oz and 12oz.
After the fishing we retired to the picnic area and fired up the fryer. Mooch was too lame to fillet his fish so he had Alex (Alien) do it for him. The four fish actually fryed up into enough tacos for the guys that stuck around to eat them. We had bean salad and some shrimp cocktail also. Fishhunters avocado dish was absolutely superb. We shot the baloney around the fryer and agreed that it was a good thing. My wife even showed up after her dog show in Livermore and got a taco and proclaimed it to be very tastey. The dogs didn't get tacos.....
Mooch came up with the idea that we should award a tie dye shirt to the winner, and make a series of events. All were in agreement.
I had a great time and I would like to thank all the anglers that showed up. Let's keep doing it!
I must say that my new ride is totally trick. The pool noodle shoot through hull transducer mount worked perfectly!!!
It is a bit of a wet ride though, but that can be mitigated with scupper plugs. It is much faster than my drifter and turns on a dime. I am totally ecstatic over my new boat.

It was my first time at Lexington so i decided to take the tour from the boat launch, north side. Went to the right and paddled the whole west shore to the south with no hook-up. I used every thing from rubber worms and jigs to spinnerbaits and shadraps. The wind was coming from the south so it didn't help any. But, on the way back, fishing the east shore the wind kept me at a steady drift to do some fresh water trouching. Same results: Zero fish for me!
But it was all Good!
Again it was nice to see all the familiar faces and good to meet all the new ones.

Congrats Mooch!! Sorry I had to bail but I forgot to bring water and by the time I got of the water I had a major dehydration headache.
This was the first time I have caught a bass while actually fishing for bass. My 2 previous bass where caught fishing for stripers. Thanks to Jason for showing me the tricks of the trade. I caught a 10" and a 4". I hooked the 4" trying to target some crappie in a back cove.
Mol's freak out on that little top water bass was hilarious!! To his credit though it did sound like a big fish when it broke the surface.
Thanks again to the Mol man for setting up the event. Even though it was billed as a laid back get together, I know from experience that things can get a bit hectic.

Mooch vs's the Mol, sounds like you guys had some fun, I've noticed that Joel doesnt trash talk when he's gettin down to business. WTG Mooch!!! :headbang: I was wondering where the Linda Mar crew was, now I know. Actually, I knew, Joel had told me and I had read the hook up but I've been seriously lusting for Salmon action.

Had A graet time even though I did not catch any fish. Although I did Have one awsome biteI think it could have been the winner , but I lost it I'll just blame it on the beer from the night before. It was still fun and can't wait till the next one. Had fun hooking up with Mol' and the rest of the crew. I'm a little sad I didn't stick around for the home BREW!
I'm going to try the ocean next, GTO19 is supposed to take me this weekend maybe I'll castch something this time.
Had fun and hope to hook up with you guy's some time soon.

You didn't miss the homebrew as I didn't bring any as it is not quite ready.
I actually tested the stout and pale ale last night. The stout still needs to carbonate, I have no idea why the stout takes so long. Maybe because it is so strong.
The pale ale is drinkable and very nicely carbed, but still a little young.
I just scored 3 more corny kegs and a CO2 tank so I will have the IIPA and the ESB in kegs at bendo at mendo along with the bottles of stout and pale ale.

I was glad to be there and there was great company. Congrats to the three that got keepers (though just barely keepable as we'd all agree) but it is still a testament to their angling prowess and I salute them :salut: . I hae a lot to learn about bas fishing from a kayak and intend to prctice again and again :smt001 . The company was great, the after-fish food was great (thank MB for the fryer) , I tried out my Prowler 15 for the first real test and figured out a lot more I need to do to it. All in all a good time (I'll post picinic pics soon). I managed a 10" "lunker" and one about 4"-5" caught on trolling a shad plug as big as he was.
When is the next one :smt004 . Let's remember, there are other good bass reservoirs around with edible fish: Del Valle, Chesbro, Uvas, and of course how about San Luis in the Fall for Stripers and Black Bass. I'd do it again in a heart beat although I'd only rate it a 6 out of 10--only because the wind constantly harrassed me.

Sorry I missed the tournament fellas. I'm a newb but Lexington is close to my house so I fish there the most. The wind is always a problem there. To have it howling at 8AM is really unusual and for some reason the coves there are windy too. There's a few spots that usually produce and hopefully I get to share my limited knowledge with you guys next time, if there will be another one @ Lex.
I met Kickfish there last week, nice to mee ya kick, and he had a great set up that he says works there. He had a downrigger that he trolled for Trout with. SHe mentioned that somewhere around 30 feet down they lurk. So if the Bass don't bite that may be the ticket.

First of all, thanks to Chris / Mol for getting the ball rolling on this "First" Tie Dye Tournament Trail :smt003 Hope to see more of these in the future :smt023
I started out trolling a shad rap along the edges of the shoreline (like I normally do)- but there were a few float tubers and boats that were parked along the way. I did notice that a floattuber (a regular) was constantly drifting around 20 to 30 ft. I paddled right by him and asked how he was doing. He had mentioned that he had already caught and released 4 "good ones". So, I stuck to local knowledge and decided to do the same. I rigged up a drop shot with a purple and black robo worm and paddled to my "go to spot" and worked an area between two points - about 30 to 40 ft. On my first drop = HULI KA!!!!
It was nerve racking cause I was using 6# mono on a trout rod and the bass was not showing any color at all. Then, I see a boat coming my way and so I dipped my entire rod in the water as pretended that there was nothing "happening" :smt002 They (clearly NASCAR fans) cruised by and asked if I had a fish on - I just told them that I snagged bottom...so they went away... :smt003 Brought the rod back into view and finally got to see the fish - got the net and the bass was on the deck :smt026 The bass went 15 inches and I was just happy to get one to bite. I called it in and told the rest that the fish were deep. I continued to fish other likely spots but the wind was just too much to handle. I tucked into some coves but had no luck. It was clearly a tough day to fish for 'em - even some the boaters that I came across had no luck at all.
At 2PM, I finally got word that I had the winning bass - stress level went down and I was ready to feed :smt003

Mooch had a bunch of nylon sheaths for the plastic fishgripper deals, I think he said they were given to him by Fishhunter. He gave me one and I found a place on the yak for them. Always good to keep the deck clutter down.
The point being that the sheath fit on my seat back perfectly and within easy reach!

My new yak gets better by the day. The rod/tackle box did indeed work out very well. I'm quite happy that I went 4 instead of 3 tubes.
