Had a great weekend on the water.  Started out hooking up with Bigeyedave and polepole at Stillwatre for abing and stabbing.  The water was nice and flat and the viz was ok at around 5 feet.

We all anchored in 30 or so feet and dove on some pinnacles.  Bigeyedave and my other buddy dave worked the top of a pinaccle for a few nice abs and some nice fish.  I managed a couple of ratty blues, but hey...they weren't perch!  I was a little uncomfortable in such an exposed spot but I got it together once I got a few fish.

We went to leave, but everyones anchors were snagged.  Super hero Bigeye then went into deep water and retrieved everyones anchors with his insane breathhold skills.

Polepole waiting for anchor service...

On the way back Bigeye jumped into some deeper water for some nice fish...

We picked up Jr. and put him in the tankwell of my x-factor and we took him out to try for his first freediving ab.  We put him in some good territory and let him have at it.  He was a little freaked out at first, but then settled down, and started going at it.  After about 6 tries,I watched underwater as he popped his first snail, and held onto it like it was gold.  He was so stoked, and I was as proud as possible.

Got home on Sunday to a call from "Rikshaw" Ric at Cobra and he wanted to go try for a striper at Mendo.  We paddled for slow action but I managed a nice thick 28.5 inch striper.  Weighed a touch under 9.5, my heaviest of the season.

Does it get any funner?

Yup.  It was nice to hook up with scwafish and bigeyedave.  Tom and I dove an exposed pinnacle just outside of the other guys.  Lot's of blues swimming around, but nothing we felt like shooting.  We watched large schools of blues busting on bait while we were floating there.  Pretty cool!  We  pulled a few abs for the dinner table ... nothing too big.  Tried panko for the first time.  Delicious!

I think it's time for a new wetsuit.  I bought the one I have when I was 20 pounds lighter.  I really had a hard time breathing as the top was too tight.  Oops!  Anyone in need of a large 7mm, 2 piece wetsuit by Body Glove??  Make me an offer.

Oh and thank you bigeyedave for pulling our otherwise stuck anchor!!

Allen,

I'm 5'6", 155lbs.  Would this wetsuit fit me?  PM or email me.

Kevin, I don't think it will fit you.  So I actually think the wetsut is an Large/Tall (LT) although it may be a Large (L).  I have to check.  From the BodyGlove sizing chart:

L    5'11"-6'2"    185-205
LT     6'1"-6'4"     190-210

I'm 6'3" and 210.  I got the wetsuit when I was 190-ish.

And you are more likely be a Small/Medium (SM):

SM     5'7"-5'9"     145-165

Bummer I was in real estate purgatory.  Hopefully it'll pay off with a yard and a 2 car garage with enough left over to fill the tank for fishing expeditions.

When I weighed 155lbs I had a med farmer john and a L jacket because I'm kind of heavy chested.  I also 'outgrew' it when I switched from biking to school to driving to work.  Wouldn't hurt to try on a large suit, but I'd expect it not to be snug enough, resulting in water moving around inside - which seriously compromises it's warmth.

When the chest got tight in my new jacket, I lost some weight and that fixed it on the cheap.  ;)

Nice report, Sean--looks like a great time.  I can't wait until my son or daughter is old enough to pop a first ab while diving!

Polepole only looks small because he's on a huge yak.  Thanks for all of the comments, it really was a great time.  Looking forward to going back.

BTW- the dinner on Saturday was INSANE...abs, cab and vermillion, venison, grilled porcinnis, zuchini, bellpeppers, pasta etc. all washed down with entirely too much of bigeye's delicious home made merlot.  Leah finished us off with angelfood cake topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. I am still full! :smt023

It was truly a great weekend.  The one thing nobody has mentioned yet was the really cool whales we saw while paddling south toward Timber Cove.  It is such an amazing experience to be next to whales on a kayak.  Epic weekend.  Lets do it again soon.

It all has to do with the size of your computer monitor  :smt003
