Anyone have any ideas how to transport an Outback on our new motorhome other than a trailer? I believe its too long to stand up on the back?
-
ThatÂ’s why we got a fifth wheel and a goal post for the front hitch. Buy an inflatable for when you are RVÂ’ng.

paging Tote?

paging Tote?
True. Hullavator with super long extensions and motor operated.

Eide Boat Loader - they work really well.

I did a custom one for one of the NWKA brothers from Alaska, we put holes in the roof to bolt it on (Dicor over the feet) and it was a pain to get up there and he was well over 6’6. It’s doable.

I used the first video to come up with my own idea.
It works.
I'd rather have something like in the second video.
Might make something like that if I feel the need but for now #1 works.
What I do like is that I don't have to climb up on the roof.

Rooftop is pretty much out of the equation for this rig. Has anyone used one of these? Incredibly pricey but would be excellent if it worked okay. With the length of my hobie I'd be right at 13.5 feet... that's a good 3 feet over the top of my rig. What do you think about this? Has anyone tried a vertical mount on their rig?
-
Do the math.
How long is your kayak?
How high will the lowest point be from the ground?
If you have a 13 ft kayak and it's lowest point is only 24'' off the ground you now have to clear 15'.
Think about it.

Do you know where you can find the topsto in video 2?

I don't think it is mfg any more. It's from Australia.

I would first put the kayak on roof to see if it will even fit? Looks like lots stuff on your roof.
If it will fit it can be done
I mounted two tracks on roof. Then use my cross bars and saddles
Issue is getting on roof. Outback heavy
I put pad on back of Camper. Throw a rope over camper to front
Lift the kayak up to 45 like loading. Person in front then pulls on rope as you push up from rear.
Does not take much pulling because at some point kayak goes over center and will then slide into saddles
note need to contact manf of MH to get info on ceiling support locations for mounting track. Also get load info for roof. With all the stuff on roof you may already exceed roof loading?

Have you thought about inflatable or modular kayak? Might save you some $$ and back pain. If you do, I would suggest modular kayak (inflatable is a pain if you like to load-n-go).

So, I guess I'm going with the vertical rack from rvkayakracks.com. The boat will stick up to about 13'. But at least we don't lose our mobility.

Not sure if you’ve seen this but might be helpful: http://www.dot.ca.gov/hq/structur/strmaint/brlog2.htm(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20171108/63fe8765c917f2d725acbe8ab9f5fc1b.jpg)

DEFINITELY measure and give yourself some lee way.
My motorhome is lifted and has 33'' tires and my high point with the Hobie Revo on top is 12'4''. I look for 13' clearance or greater.
-
That's a great help! Thank you!

Well.. got the rack and everything looks good. Expensive as fuck but a good alternative to pulling a trailer. What's the height from the ground to the tip of the highest point of the kayak on level ground?
You will also have to figure in bounce height.
-
Just goose it as you go under, suck the ass end right down. DO NOT STOP OR APPLY THE BRAKES. I seen that movie, and it does not end well.
-
Looks awesome! Thx for circling back, love the pics.
-
That's very cool. Does the rudder stay still---looks like it might want to flap in the breeze...

13' 3".. leaving me a whopping 3" of "extra" clearance! And shit, never considered the bounce height!

Ya, I'll have to think of a better way to secure it before I hit the road with it, for sure!

Expensive a fuck for about $100 worth of steel, I love being able to weld! Are the stock rear bumper bars going to bottom out before the light weight skid plate under the nose of that hobie? Think receiver hitch scraping on an inclined driveway. That sucker looks REAL tall from the back photo. Too bad it isn’t at an angle with the bottom facing the rig.

I have a pretty steep driveway ramp and didn't bottom out on that. I'm sure I'll run into a few issues with bottoming out.. but hopefully I can anticipate them. I'm learning that everything in this sport is overpriced.. especially anything with the name "HOBIE" on it.

Yep, +1
These are the Shi-biz, although a kayak doesn't have a nice wide transom for stability.

Looks like it wold work for a Raptor.
