Title: My lazy ass brother
Post by: TheLocksmith on December 08, 2017, 10:38:36 AM
My brother wants to do kayak fishing with me but he doesn’t want to do any paddling.

So my question is what is the best way to get a kayak going with the trolling motor?

What are the important need to knows?

What is a good kayak in the $500 to $800 (not including the motor) range and that can support someone that is 6’3 280 pounds?

Im lazy these days so i can relate.

Sounds like the best kayak is a 10-12' aluminum boat with a trolling motor and a pair of batteries. Everything about kayakfishing is work, loading/unloading, setup, paddling, fighting wind/current, hell just the thought of changing into a drysuit and pfd get me burnt out.  Im all about backing the boat in and sipping coffee as i blast from spot to spot :)

A Hobie, though they're not cheap.

A used beater 12' jon boat with trailer can be found in that price range.  It doesn't sound like he wants a kayak.

Put a motor on it and the DMV will have its hands in your wallet for as long as you own the kayak.

At 280 lbs I would suggest a 14 ft aluminum if 2 will be fishing. If he really wants to yak, then a beater hobie with a watersnake TM might be the way to go.

Tell his ass to stay home. Kayak fishing is not for him.

Yeah he will never be on a yak. Tell the slacker to stick to the remote control.

Lol!  Some of my best fishing trips have been ditching the slackers and crybabies!  Where are the pictures?

It's a tough place to fish especially for first timers.  Keep at it and better luck on your next trip out!  Hopefully I'll see you out there!
