My daughters and I like collecting shells and other things from the ocean...

The house and backyard are littered with abalone, urchin, scallop shells etc.

I have a little tray thingy where I keep some of my favorite treasures/trophies on display downstairs and took a pic of it last night.

On the tray are some random ab shells, sea urchins, rock scallops, sand dollars, owl limpets, otoliths (from verms, stripers, olives, blues and lings), sheephead jaws, and the tails of my two biggest stripers.

Anybody else collect stuff like this or I am just a weirdo?

Sincerely,

Jim

Weirdo :smt044

I concur.  :smt002

I banned all rock, shell, sea glass collecting in my house.

However, I do have a large 14' tall wall in my dining area that is begging for a sailfish mount  :smt001

I have shells ..........everywhere!  :smt001

pic 1. My faux 10" trophy ab. It would've been my first  :smt044
Gauged him in a cave ....didn't know I was measuring barnacles too  :smt005
Turned out to be 9.5 inches.  :smt009

pic 2. Mondo mussel from Shelter Cove. They were everywhere in huge clumps like bananas.

pic 3. Big uni .......because I wanted one with spines still intact. Have had it for a couple years now.

pic 4. Silent Hunter's first ab at last years Albion Open. Have it on my desk  :smt007

pic 5. "Costa" that's this little porcupine fish's name. Found him on the beach on the East Cape where I own a coastal lot. He resides on a shelf in my office in a clear plastic cube  :smt003

pic 6,7. A cuban cigar box original contents of which I made go up in smoke.
Now is home to many little treasures that I found on the same beach as I found Costa. Gathered these in less than 4 mins including the sand  :smt007

I also have a sailfish mount from Huatulco Mexico. A Dorado from the Yucatan Peninsula and a Roosterfish from San Jose Del Cabo.

If I had more wall space I'd add more.  :smt001

One of my Mechanical inspectors has OCD and collects weird stuff. He has a giant collection of salty globs found in sunflower seed packages, 4 different 60's Plymouth Belvederes and also roadside battered padlock collection as he rides a bike to work every day.

Things I've done in the past few years:

- took multiple buckets full of shells back to the beach because the wife is done complaining about them;

- moved all my best ten inch abs from the living room to my side of the 'walk-in' closet - wife said, "haven't they been on our living room wall long enough?..."

If you come to visit and want to see my best tens and a couple fat elevens please just ask - master closet tour coming up!!  :smt005

-----

I'm glad to still be allowed to have a few abs, urchins, scallops and other aquatic artifacts around the house.

Cherish your time celebrating your ocean passion with your girls!!  :smt001

The pile of ab shells, urchins and oyster shells make a good background for the bench outside.
