Has anyone done much perch fishing in the Half Moon Bay area?  Which beach do you recommend? Thanks.

Hey Rey, I haven't perched fished HMB for past 2 years, so I don't have any recent intel for you, but my pops and I used to surf fish HMB all the time in the past so I can tell you that we've caught barred surf perch at almost any beach along the 1.  From where 92 meets the 1, we'd usually head south and hit up any beach access we could find.  We'd usually start at Poplar Beach, which is off Poplar Street and I have done well here when I went about 2 years ago.  Not sure how it is now, but all the times I've been there, its free parking and there are portable toilets available.  There is a ramp that leads you down to the beach.  Semi steep and can be slippery at times so be careful when walking down.

If you use bait, I recommend pile worms or regular shrimp.
If using artificials, I'd highly recommend Berkley Gulp Sandworms, camo color, 2" size or khlains or big hammer grubs.

I personally like to chill and baitfish sometimes, but if you want to find the fish, you got to be on the move so I'd recommend using lighter setup with artificial plastics.

Good luck.
