General Talk / Headed to Pine Mountain Lake
« on: September 02, 2016, 07:25:14 PM »
Pine Mountain Lake info welcome. Heading up there this weekend with the family. Taking the tandem. Hoping to get my daughter and nephew on some fish.

Looks like they used to plant trout there but maybe the company went out of business due to drought? Any other populations of fish at this lake? Bass...crappy?

Thanks all

General Talk / Momma Loves Me
« on: April 18, 2016, 10:26:31 PM »
So my birthday came around last month and my mother-in-law asks me if I want a BBQ for my birthday. I tell her I just got a new gas grill last fall and am good to go. So looks at me like I'm silly and says she has a real BBQ for me if I'm interested then proceeds to show me a pic.

Well she just dropped it off tonight and I couldn't be happier. I have this old brick fountain in my back yard that is just begging to be turned into a "REAL BBQ". I have a friend with a ton of reclaimed bricks in his backyard and a neighbor with a close friend who is also a mason. I foresee many great days this summer.

General Talk / Dreams DO Come True!!

For the 39 years that I've been alive on this planet I've been a renter in Santa Cruz. On Friday I closed escrow on the house I've been raising my family in for the last 7.5 years. I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to own dirt in the middle of the city of Santa Cruz which I never thought would have been possible but here I am.

Yay me!!   :smt005

Oh, and if you know anybody who is looking for a 1 bedroom studio in Santa Cruz let me know...Available starting January 1st.

I've been so good at locking my car at night but the one time I forget I get my car rifled through. I mostly don't keep expensive stuff in my car but those phuking tweakers got my GoPro  :smt013

It wasn't sitting out in the open. They pulled everything out of my center console and left it strewn all over my car. Not including my GoPro.  :smt011

Sad day  :smt012

General Talk / Beyond Sad News
« on: July 28, 2015, 06:24:51 AM »
I don't usually post stuff like this but this has really been affecting me. I could hardly concentrate at work yesterday with Madyson Middleton  missing. Last night we got the worst possible news.

This hits particularly close to home for me with Maddy being so close in age to Aubrey. She lived 5 minutes from my house. One minute riding her scooter, then she is gone. This is my absolute worst nightmare as a parent. I hope this at least brings closure to the family, which is better than just not knowing what happened to your baby, but we were all hoping for a different outcome.

RIP little Maddy :(

General Talk / Mussel Inspections
« on: February 26, 2015, 01:10:19 PM »
So for the first time I own a yak without any kind of a hatch to get at the interior. Will I get grief from the inspectors for them not being able to inspect the interior of my kayak. Think I should install a small hatch to avoid this kind of scrutiny? I mostly fish salt water but now that I have a tandem I plan to do a lot more freshwater fishing with my daughter and eventually my son.

So what do you guys think?

Went down to Kayak Connection in Santa Cruz to pickup this used Perception Tribe tandem. Can't wait to take the girl out for our first trip next weekend. Probably hit Shadow Cliffs.

Wanted To Buy / WTB: Tandem Sit On Top
« on: February 20, 2015, 10:02:29 AM »
Looking to buy a tandem yak. This is the year that I get my oldest on a kayak for some fun and fishing. I'm willing to entertain any offers but I paddled a Perception Tribe II and thought it was a really nice paddling kayak so real interested in one of those. Let me know what you got.

Thanks,

-FF

I'll be paddling out of the sc harbor at first light tomorrow. Mostly planning to fish around the lighthouse. My radio is broken but I'd love some company.

General Talk / NCKA Rocks!!

A huge shout out to Eelkram (mark) for lending me his tandem yak so my sister and I could go catch the Giants game in the cove yesterday. We had a total blast even though the Giants lost.

I've never paddled a Perception kayak before but for the record, the Perception Tribe 13.5 Tandem is a McCovey Cove hell raiser!!  That thing turns on a dime with no rudder and is nice and wide. My sister in law could have ridden in style without ever paddling. It is so maneuverable and easy to paddle. It is also a pretty dry ride and there's enough deck storage front a rear for the necessities for each paddler.

We are seriously considering pitching on one to share. It would also be a great minimal fishing yak to take the kids out.

So anyway a huge thank you to Eelkram for your generosity and for helping out a stranger in need. Let's go fish the next time you come down to SC.

General Talk / Need to borrow a tandem
« on: July 13, 2014, 09:39:09 AM »
My sister in law wants to go sit in the cove for a Giants game with me but doesn't feel comfortable paddling her own yak so I'm reaching out to the Ncka family in hopes of borrowing a tandem for a day or two. The game we are looking at is Saturday July 26th. I'm hoping to either find somebody in Santa Cruz or who lives on the route to AT&T park (ie. 17 to 85 to 280)

Can anybody help a brother out?
