General Talk / Fish finders for lakes and the delta
« on: June 04, 2021, 04:14:14 PM »
Hijacking this 8 month old thread just because I am curious if anyone out there has a preference for inland waters (lakes/delta/rivers/sloughs).

Will a low price Garmin fit the bill or is it better to save up and get side scan?  I fish mostly small to medium size lakes in the foothills and occasionally I will get to the delta. Thanks in advance for any and all thoughts.

General Talk / Memorial Day
« on: May 28, 2021, 10:46:04 AM »
The Day is one for us to honor the men and women in our military who passed while serving our country.  It is not the day to thank veterans and active duty for their service.  Anyday other than Monday is a good day to thank them. (my son who is in the Air Force let me know) . He also said; "Don't wish anyone a “Happy Memorial Day”.  Memorial Day is not founded in joy with the promise of bringing happiness each year. "

I'll take my chances with Heart Disease ...

At least there is some buxom young nurse wiping the sweat off'n your brow while you ease into the Sweet Bye n' Bye.

... instead of soiling yourself as you watch the bow of your craft and its NCKA sticker become floss for something with incisors  the size of Rhode Island.

nice fantasy you created out of heart disease.  I don't wish that disease on anyone.  I've lost a father and a brother to that disease.

as far as sharks go, anytime you are out on the ocean there is a world of life under you that you will only catch a glimpse of.  Sharks are always around.  and fish and whales and dolphins and rays and.....  At least you don't have to worry too much about random people while you are on the water.   as many have pointed out, you are safer on the water than you are on land.

General Talk / Folsom Lake level and the drought
« on: May 27, 2021, 08:54:33 AM »
Folsom Lake is well below its seasonal level by about 60 feet and speed limit on lake is 5mph.  It is going to be a long dry summer. "good news" for kayaks as we wont have nearly the number of PB's to be concerned about.  Not sure if other area lakes are as impacted.

Up North, I heard the Klamath is in really bad shape as well; which is more concerning for the salmon population.

stick to the shallow bays and away from the open ocean if you are afraid of the landlord but want to catch something more salty

Grim Reefer -

Do you think the situation described here can be considered a robbery?
And if so, California law defines robbery as a felony.
Not a misdemeanor.

Furthermore, according to California law
“The use of deadly force in protecting property is authorized in the following circumstances:
In defense of habitation or property against one who intends, by violence or surprise, to commit a felony; or...”

So, if I’m being robbed, can’t I use deadly force against the attacker? And especially if the attacker turns from the victim to me, wouldn’t it be reasonable to assume they are coming to hurt me or my property and I can use deadly force against them?

I know that if this were to happen, everything would be questioned in court, so I’m not asking about that. I’m asking if the above understanding is correct.

I might be wrong, but I think in California, even if you're being robbed, your life would have be in some serious serious danger before you can respond with deadly force.  Seems crooks have more protection from the law than we do...lol.

I agree with Smoke.  per Grim, the crime is a non-violent felony.  (Breaking a window and grabbing valuables).  Grim states that you have to be directly threatened or assaulted for you to use deadly force.  and even then you will have to be able to prove it.

Sad that our officers are put in the situations they are, and sad that law abiding citizens are left to be victims due to the actions of our elected State officials.  I pray the pendulum will swing back to a more reasonable and centered approach when it comes to dealing with felony crime.  Unfortunately, it is my opinion that things will have to get worse before a change occurs.

A great ending to this story.

I think he took the "just one more cast and I will head home" saying a little too far.

hmmmm....at 10 to 20 cents per, i think you may be able to create quite a few and find a group of people that may want to buy one or two.   If only there was a forum of people that could use these things on the internet    :smt044

Hobie Kayaks / Re: What's Hobie working on?
« on: May 14, 2021, 11:42:13 AM »
Definitely not sea worthy, but looks like a nice bass fishing platform, but the price is a bit killer.  Would rather get an outback for a little more.

+1

or buy a different quality brand kayak for half the price and get it fully rigged with the money saved by not buying a Hobie.

Hobie Kayaks / Re: What's Hobie working on?
« on: May 14, 2021, 09:32:57 AM »
looks like a "hobiefied" version of the ascend (which might be a knockoff another manufacture, perhaps even Hobie).  Maybe a good platform for fly fishing for those with a low center of gravity and exceptional balance.  (I'm old tall and heavy so count me out)

"Hobiefied" - take an existing platform, triple the price with proprietary systems, market the crap out of it see if it sells.

Not to be confused with the innovative products that Hobie is known for; which are advancements that others try to copy.
