Scott, thanks for that awesome list!!!  I've been keeping the boxes, or taking pictures of them to try and remember the depth ranges  :smt005 Started writing it on the plano boxes as well as the under belly of some of the lures :smt003

So, what about things like kastmasters?  Any tips on targeting depths with them, without a DR?

Al

Trolling kastmasters you are basically near the surface, 3-4 ft max depth I would guess. Slower speed, heavier lure and longer setback may get you a little deeper. Kastmasters can be trolled from 1-3 MPH or even faster so they work well if you are pulling a plug on the other rod. The 1/4 oz size is very versatile and will catch trout, crappie and bass. I travel pretty light these days and bring 6-8 Rapalas and 2-3 Kastmasters only on most freshwater trips. Add a downrigger and you can fish most species year round except for heavily stained water or when the fish are sluggish. A kastmasters on a downrigger can be deadly for deep suspended stripers and trout.

When Rich and I were trolling Amador we were barely moving. I'd guess 1/2 mph. Hardly ever 2  strokes in a row. So slow I sometimes thought I was going to take a nap between strokes. It was working. I use a long set back too. 100 ft, maybe more. I use that technique just about everywhere I go. Trolling pb's are always passing me. I know everyone does a little different. If I want the lure down more, more line and/or added weights.

What I did with all the lures that I bought was cut the piece of the box
that had the size and depth of the lure. Then I placed that piece of paper inside the Plano box under the lures. There is no way I can remember all of that information for every lure. Scott, I hope next time
you go after the trout again, I hope it is on a Saturday so I can tag along once more. :smt002
