Title: Kayak Fishing Crash Photos
Post by: sackyak on May 22, 2008, 08:05:35 AM
I know this is a fishing Pic forum but this is a Kayak Angling site and I believe we need to also emphasize the kayak angle (pun intended) in photos.  Therefor I am starting this Kayak Crash thread in hopes it will become a permanent part of this forum.

I will start out with this photo of Scott (GreatBass2) at LK last week.  Nice angle Scott!

it can even happen on flat water. And because we are your friends we will be there to point, laugh hysterically, and ready to capture your moment with a photo.

What a great thread. No one said kayaking is easy. I havent had my spill yet, but it's coming! Hopefully I will have pics to contribute to this thread.

I find that often a high brace into the wave face will save me from a roll. I usually end up broaching the boat & running aground sideways when I do that, but it keeps me upright. Ride'em cowboy!
Nice pics!

A sideways landing is still a successful landing.  I often end up that way and prefer it to Scotts method  :smt005 .

With his permission, here is a video of SCXFactor about 3 weeks ago at Chef's Reef. I apologize for this Sir.  :smt044  I was just trying to film your landing technique. I didn't know carnage would ensue.

Thanks for sharing that, I did one like that at Caspar a while back with about 100 people watching - small waves, surfers having fun - I lapsed in my focus for a second as I watched a greybeard snag a nice wave to the right and behind me and threw a big yardsale. Thankfully, no one hurt themselves laughing too hard!

If it hasn't happened to you yet, believe me my kayaking brothers it is going to happen.

When rockfishing season comes around the corner we will have newbies flopping all over the surf. Please guys practice your self rescue and your surf launch/landings.

I try to surf my Tarpon 160 for fun when I'm at the beach. Its a guaranteed bailout/crash all the time. Atleast I know I'm ready & not nervous when it happens for real.

It's a good idea for you bay/lake/delta guys to bring your yak & paddle to the beach and just practices surf launch & landings. Leave your fishing gear at home and just go in/out/in/out/in/out/in/out/in/out.

wasnt fishing but I most certainly was crashing. humbling times learning that even the smallest waves can bring the smack down.
and a great example of why we practice
