Has anyone done the boat-in camping thing at Tahoe? I knew a guy who used to do this by kayak years ago but never went on a trip. My wife found a link and is considering this for a short vacation for us. Since we now have two touring boats it sounds good to me. If anyone out there has done this little trip please post comments, etc. I probably won't do much fishing (freezer is already stocked), but the paddle on the lake would be interesting.

I'm considering doing this trip myself - kayak camping and fishing = it doesn't get any better than that  :groupwave

I plan to do a test launch with my P15 kayak fully loaded with camping and fishing gear inside the HMB harbor sometime - just to see how the yak handles with the extra weight. (enough gear for at least 2 nights)

Loon Lake would be another great Kayak camping destination  :smt023

Sean,

I spent a long weekend kayak camping/fishing on Lake Sonoma early this spring.  It was pretty easy to load most of the heavy gear into my kayak hatch and strap the rest of the lighter things up top in dry bags.  As long as you're not the type of camper who needs to bring everything including the kitchen sink you'll be fine.

Here's the report.. ah, fond memories.

Thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it.  I was actually looking for any specific info on the area itself, beach condition, camping, etc.
I used to work for the UCSF rec program doing kayak camping trips to Tomales, Pyramid lake NV, etc. Then I went to California Canoe & kayak and did trips mostly on Tomales. After that I headed up north to Prince William Sound Kayak Center in Whittier AK and did multi day sea kayak trips on the sound for two summers (got my first yak fish there, 16lb silver). Kayak camping totally rules! It's so much easier to float than carry your gear.
