Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Blue Meat
« on: July 22, 2019, 02:10:30 PM »
And I'm not talking about lingcod:

Went on the Red Rooster 3 for a 1.5 day trip from 7/16 - 7/18, hoping to catch a bluefin tuna.

Ended up with a limit of BFT and 3 YT.

Caught my BFT on bait, and the YT on yoyo and surface iron.

Not a bad discount if you're in the market for a kayak cart like I am.

General Talk / Top 3 Catches of 2015
« on: December 28, 2015, 10:20:40 AM »
What were your top three catches for 2015?

I'd like to start this post to get some more fish porn since the slow season is upon us. The catches don't have to be from a kayak either, they could be from a boat, diving, etc. And pics or it didn't happen!!

General Fishing Tips / Downrigger and Lure Running Depth
« on: January 11, 2015, 02:52:24 PM »
I was just wondering, if I have a lure that has a running depth of 5' and I put it on a downrigger to 20', is my lure at 25'? Let's assume I'm trolling at the ideal speed to get the lure to that depth and threre is no blowback from the downrigger ball.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Free Milk Crate-Like Containers, With Lid!
« on: October 01, 2013, 09:38:29 PM »
I have these plastic containers I got at work that would be great as an alternate to the milk crate style of gearing up. They kind of look like the Hook1 YakAttack BlackPak. They have a hinged lid with two snap tabs on the sides that keep the lid down. I have 5 extras if anyone wants them.

General Talk / Fishing Peeing Flipping Fishing
« on: September 01, 2013, 09:21:34 PM »
Just starting to get into kayak fishing, went with a guide out of Santa Cruz (with Travis and Joe of Kayak Connection, awesome dudes!) and I have to take a leak. I lay on my back, turn to my left side, unzip, and let it rip. I felt relatively stable while doing my thing and just as I finish, a swell lifts the right side of the kayak up just enough to dump me and flip the kayak!! What made it worse was that I fell into my own pee puddle, hah!! Anyhow, I flip the kayak right side up and climb back on, expecting my poles and gear to be gone. Everything is still there except a pair of pliers (sorry Travis) and a cheap dive knife. Travis paddles over to help grab my paddle and water bottle and Joe nets up my burlap sack and a black rockfish that fell out. Back to fishing. Caught 7 rock fish for the day and had a great time, looking forward to going again!!

TL/DR - Fell into my own pee puddle, caught some fish.

My buddy caught this fish in Monterey Bay near the Navy Jetty. Has a Greenling shape, but the pattern is completely different, any idea what it is?

I'm from San Jose and I've only been kayak fishing once, but it was fun even though we didn't catch much of anything. Looking to get into more!!
