you can cut out the bloodline even with the skin on, just make two angular cuts where the blood line is and pull it off. I made ceviche with the first time a few weeks ago and its da bomb.

hang in there man, you got lots of love and support here. Read about it on Norcal Salmon Report, FB page. As a decades long kayak fisherman turned boater, I totally got your back. Boater has no excuse

Geez.  Slayer mindset is there, just maybe not the know-how?  At least he had a pfd and I guess a compass if he wanted a heading, but that's a long way out!  Hope he got a salmon out of it at least.  A lot to risk for no fish.

thing is I didn't see rods on board, unless he already stowed them.

Safety First / paddle kayak at the soquel hole Saturday
« on: June 28, 2022, 02:00:54 PM »
Saturday I was fishing in a PB at the soquel hole. Lots of radio chatter about a kayak. Saw him expecting an AI, motor etc. Nope, just a plain SOT. This was around 1 pm, winds picking up even though its still foggy. Later a boater on the radio said the guy is heading back to moss landing, asked for a heading. Boater offered ride, but yakker said no. He had no radio, no gps but did have a pfd.

in my mind those are required goods but in that fog, he needs something more than him and his yak to bounce radar off of. Not to mention the number of boats the zip along at 20-30 knots with not radar in 30 foot vis.

interesting set up. I have done that before with a float in Pacifica. How did the bait hold up with that zip tie holder?

General Talk / Shark_bait is on Americas got talent
« on: June 28, 2021, 07:53:53 PM »
Hey all,

Been awhile, I was lured to the dark side and have been fishing on a PB lately. Just a heads up that Nathan aka Shark_bait is part of four guys tossing around barbells on Americas got talent tues night the 29th.

for those that dont remember, he was a little kid when he started kayak fishing, then became a spearo, collegiate gymnast, cirque du soleil performer, then covid shut his show down a month before the premier. This is his current gig. But his real claim to fame was being followed by a shark in big sur

General Fishing Tips / Re: Question on trolling from a kayak
« on: August 13, 2020, 11:40:35 AM »
to give you an idea of weight, when I bounce ball from a pb trolling at 2 mph, I use a 2.5 lb ball scoped out a bit. In a kayak I used 8-12 oz. if I didnt see it bounce, I stopped paddling till it does bounce then start again.  The boat is great, but to be honest the kayak gives you much more control

General Fishing Tips / Re: Are afternoons better in Monterey?

I have a theory that needs further testing in a controlled study: the bite gets better just as the wind starts to blow, but while it's still sensible to be fishing from a kayak.  If it's true, maybe it's because the wind causes the kayak to drift a little more.

agree. a little movement helps, in the AM I tend to paddle a tiny bit, later the wind does it for me.

Thanks, Allen for doing this.   Let's all stay well.  One thing.  Remember all those chores projects and honey-do's?  Get them done now, and when this SIP is lifted you'll have that much more time to devote to fishing.  Clean and organize your gear.  Rebuild new drags on those reels.  (https://www.mysticparts.com....www.alantani.com)

Bushy

dont do this. It sets the bar too high. On Star Trek Scotty admits that he pads the time so when he says the 1 hour job takes 2, and Kirk says you have 1, Scotty is golden. So for gods sake, dont do the honey dos too fast, or you WILL NEVER FISH AGAIN  :smt003
