My long time friend Bryan has been working on getting into diving for awhile now...

He came with me to Albion and shot a blue.

Took him out last weekend and viz and surge made the day rough and he didn't get anything...

Decided it was time to get him on something decent, and would take him to an area I know that is shallow with ample holes to look into for cabs, monkeys, grassies, lings etc.

At the beach we had a pretty good sized group of Bryan and I, LiveAlohaKris, BadFish Wasen and his son and wife, and my buddy Matt who is here from Florida to go to NPS and his wife Ale.

Kris helped me rig up new bands on my 60 for Bryan and we all paddled out.

I made a beeline for a shallow ledge I know that often produces monkeys and cabs...

Sure enough there was a nice sized monkey hiding between two abalone way in the back.

I call Bryan over and tell him where it is...he goes down and shoots it but the flopper doesn't deploy and all we can see is churned up sand in the back of the crack...

I tell him to let it be for a bit, and I start working my way down the crack....sure enough in the far end there is a solid cab.  :smt003

Call Bryan over and he drops down but is looking in the wrong spot so I go down with him and light up the Cab and he nails it!  :smt007

Solid chunky booger and his first "real" fish!!

He is jazzed and I am super stoked and we whoop and holler and high five before stringing the fish up.

I tell Bryan to go check the monkey now and he goes and shoots it but doesn't get it...again.  :smt005 :smt044

He's only got one eye though so I figure that's a good excuse.

I end up coming back a bit later and taking it...nice meaty 27 incher.  :smt001

I also pull a decent grassy from the same crack before we meet up with Matt and head to another area...Ale only had a 3mm suit on so she heads in to warm up and the rest of the guys are out exploring deeper.

Next spot is real overgrown and there is a lot of junk in the holes, but we all get a few rockies, and I pop a nice 17.5 inch rubberlip for DOTY before heading back in.

At shore we take some pics and chill and see Nelson Kwok and Tyler and have a few beers before heading home.

I gift all my fish to Bryan cuz I know he is unemployed right now and will make good use of them.

 :smt001

Not a super fishy day, but the stoke I got from helping Bryan out made it all worth it!!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim

ps...computer is almost fixed so should have a vid soon of Bryan shooting the cab...and missing some other fish.  :smt002 :smt005

Awesome catch Bryan! I took a vacay fishday yesterday (Mon) and caught myself a cabbie out at Still Water too. I was on my yak and it bent my rod in a good way. Hope to see you all out on the water soon! I've never posted a picture to a reply so lets see if this works???

PS - We will be back at Still Water this Sat., hope to see your group out there. :smt004
