Our pics are too big, I'm assuming. No time to re-size. I'm tired.

Same problem with my pics.
I counted 70+ kayaks today, very good turn out.

WOW was that fun. Many thanks to Victor and all of the sponsors and congratulations to all of the winners. :smt003 Kind of cold Saturday night and kind of windy Sunday morning but otherwise a perfect event. Crabbing was hit or miss and ended up with 5 dungies and 2 reds on my 4 Promar ambush hoops, short soaked. Caught a 7+" dungie but he escaped when my game bag popped open. :smt013 Oh well, really didn't need another kayak.
Really good to see old friends and meet new people and Ab Puppy. Sorry if I didn't remember everybody's name. It's hard for us senior citizens. :smt005 The demo kayaks and paddles were really cool. The Calypso looks like an awesome lightweight yak and the RTM looks like something out of a James Bond movie. I may have to replace my P15 with a Calypso. It would be great for commando fishing the central coast for short to intermediate paddle distances. The food was off the hook as usual. Andy - thanks for heating my chicken adobo and returning my ice chest. :smt006

When I came up the idea and organized the first Crabfest @ Half Moon Bay two years ago, I never thought a crabbing derby would get this popular. A BIG THANKS to Victor and Dan and all of the others who helped or sponsored this event. Victor took the challenge and brought the Crabfest to a whole new level. :notworthy:
Congrats to Jonesz and all of the winners!

I looked into this. The individual pics were ok, but you probably were uploading multiple pics, the sum of which overflowed the system. I upped the limit which should fix this.
Stupid software though ... not sure what redirecting you to post a new topic has to do with getting an error about upload size being too big. :smt011

I have fun! :smt003 I was in first place for a minute because I was the first one to checked in with 6.06 inches!!! :smt005 :smt044 Thanks Victor for putting all this together and also I would like to thank Dan for letting me borrow the SWIFT paddle :smt007

Looks like fun! I stayed home for the last day of duck season :smt013 Looks like I should have been OTW instead! Thanks for the pics and report

Great job Victor and Dan and everyone who attended. It look like Sonoma County will have a real great event for years to come. Other plans came up. Sorry I missed it you guys. Again great job promoting Promar/Ahi and all the other sponsors who gave prizes for the event. Congrats Jonesz! Youll look good on the bright green navigator this coming rockfish season.
-
Thanks Victor and Dan for sponsoring a great event! I would recommend a saturday event next time in order to handle us campers. It was a pain to pack up and get crabbing all on the same day. A full day soaking would have been nice and we would have been able to eat more crabs. :smt007 Just a thought foro next time. Was able to get 4 dungies on Saturday but none on Sunday :smt010 . Oh well , the family had a great time and the weather on Saturday was awesome! Look forward to the next hook up!

We love Doran anyway and the crabfest as a reason to go camp and play was an instant let's go with the family... weather couldn't have been better... Windy at Doran? It's Always windy :smt044 So much fun to see literally hundreds of crab pots and Yaks all over. Will be an event that my kids will tell stories about for a Long time.... :smt005 My hungry hoard of kids was no match for that Potluck :smt007 All had to stop eating or burst :smt044 :smt044 :smt044 Thanks Victor and Dan for a really good event and Time... Was fun being a contender with my big crab for 5 minutes before a bigger one came up :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

So how big was the winning crab?! :smt003
Looks like fun - way to go, Jonesz! And congrats to all the competitors, organizers and sponsors. :smt001

2012 Crabfest was a blast. The weather was perfect, crabs were being caught and the food was in abundance.
On Saturday when I arrived there were already kayaks all over the campground, it was such a great sight to see. Dan from the Headwaters had a variety kayaks out for people to demo. I was lucky enough to have Dan take me out by the Bodega Head and teach me some rock gardening and then had some fun in the surf zone. Hopefully he got some video of that. After a great day on the water there was plenty off food to be had all over the camp, I didn’t know where to start.
Sunday morning arrived and it was cold and windy, but people were already up getting their kayaks ready. At 6:30 in the morning there was already a line at the day use area. The derby started at 7:45 and the kayakers were headed out to drop their pots. Throughout the day all you could see was kayaks on the water, it was such a great sight to see. There were a total of 93 registered participants and many more kayakers who did not crab.
As always the potluck was a hit, there were sliders, tempura, chicken wings, chowder, hot dogs, Crab, noodles, adobo and much more. Thank you everyone who helped make the food for the potluck.
There were some big crabs caught for the event, every time I thought I had seen the winner a bigger crab would come in. Here are the official results:
Biggest Rock Crab went to Scott Carlson( NCKA handle?) with a size of 6.19” and a weight of 1.27 lbs.
The 2nd place Rock Crab went to Martin Bennett aka Fish n’ Brew with a size of 5.97’ and a weight of 1.11 lbs.
And now for the biggest Dungeness Crab…..
1st place went to Glyn Jones aka Jonesz with a size of 7.41” and a weight of 2.23 lbs
2nd place went to James McGrew aka KayakJames with a size of 7.19 and a weight of 2.38 lbs.
The Raffle for the Greenfish CPR mount raised $350 for our brothers Mooch and Marv. Thank you for all who donated. Jedmo was the lucky winner.
A special thanks goes out to Dan Arbuckle aka Paddleboy84 and The Headwaters kayak shop. You definitely made this event awesome and helped take it to another level. Look forward to working with you again next year.
I also wanted to thank my wife Narisa, even though see won’t read this on here she was a big part of keeping the event running. She checked people in and handled the raffle. Can’t ask for a better wife, she is already talking about next year.
A big thank you to the following sponsors: The Headwaters Kayak Shop, Promar & Ahi USA, Swift Paddles, GreenFish, Sports Authority of Concord, Spike & RTM Kayaks.
Also please remember without the sponsors all the great items at the event wouldn’t have been possible. Please remember them when thinking of making you next purchase.
Crabfest in my eyes was a huge success and I look forward to next year. I will post some more photos when I get a chance. Please feel free to post any that you have.

Thanks Dan and Victor for putting on a great event. Time spent with the NCKA brothers is always the greatest and the Crab-Fest was epic! Camping with the "Screws" can't be beat! Since I'm gonna miss the Salmon Slam, I guess Gimme Shelter VI is next for me. Can't wait!
-
Proud of you Victor.
Congrats for the awesome job and thanks for the personal invite. Surely wished I could go.

Wow, my first NCKA event and it was awesome. Thanks to Victor and Dan for hosting / sponsoring it and count me in for next year!
Anyone got any pics of the all the yaks out on the water or lined up on the beach?

Another EPIC weekend with the NCKA community!
Many thanks to Victor, Narisa, Dan and all the sponsors involved. And thank you all that made the effort to cook-up some really awesome grub at the potluk on Sunday. And of course thank you to all those that participated in the event. I truly hope we can do this every year!
Thank you form the heart...to those who donated to me and Marv :smt008
Thanks to Dustin / Rockhopper for letting me crash at his pad in Santa Rosa Friday night and getting treated to an awesome sushi dinner in town. Mike / Mickfish joined us as well. Good seeing you buddy!
The Saturday foodfest at site 99 was the best I've seen so far.....
*Adam's 7 layer Bean Dip
*Keils lumpia
*Randys grilled steak and sausages
*Jonez's stir fried vegatable, mushroom with wild bore meat
*Marvin's clam chowder soup
*Jason's pancit palabok
*Tony's chicken wings
*Nate's chicken adobo rice
......and much more (and that was only on Saturday)

The fishing is becoming secondary to the FOOD. Oh man I ate so much, then I had to eat some more. :smt044 The funny thing is Victor was worried there wouldn't be enough. :smt005 :smt005 :smt006 Luckily I paddled over 5 miles and made 28 pulls so I probably burned about 1/2 of what I ate.
-
It's all been said.
Here's some pics.

Had a great time with everyone this weekend! From the old faces to the new ones, great times were being had by all :smt002 Sometimes I wish these events were more like a week long than just the weekend :smt044 What a great turn out! Food was just outrageous! Andy even made it out on the water! :smt044 Hell, I even made it out on the water too :smt005 Cant wait for the next event! :smt002
-
Hummm... only 8 at a time now?

I don't know about past events with NCKA, but I know thats what made this event great there were all types of kayakers out there crabbing.

Well that was a fun weekend. It's been a while since I've had a NCKA fix, and it sure was great to see my yakin' brothers and sisters again. Vic and your wife deserve a big thanks for all your efforts. Also to all the sponsors. Spikes' boats are very inovative. Almost makes me want to "paddle" a kayak again... :smt044 Event went off with out a hitch. Bringing in the winning crab was a surprise. I knew it was a good one, but thought for sure someone would bring in a bigger one. When I brought em in Vic told me you can only win one prize. Pretty sure my second biggest one would have placed second also... :smt005 After a few folks came up to me and asked if I won before the announcement, it started to sink in I might just win it... Enjoyed whipping up some wild boar stirfry and sauted wild chanterelle mushrooms I picked a couple days prior. They were gone!! before I got over to sample a few :smt005 the ultimate compliment! Managed to scrape out a few flecks off the side of the bowl.... :smt044 Really impressed with the great turnout, and the food spread. Coolest thing about these gatherings is how the feast always come together. Just brings everyone closer. I always enjoy making something on the spot. Till the next gathering...

Well.... there was the NCKA Sharkfest Derby in conjunction with 2006 Bay Area Paddlefest. The derby was helluva lot of fun, however, Paddlefest folks didn't allow us to have a potluck. If they only knew what they missed!!!

I think it's just about all been said except that I have as much fun doing this as the day I started fishing a kayak. Maybe more. It was great hooking up with many folks for the first time and others I haven't seen in several years. With so many weekend campers, kitchens and guests (Fish Hunters), I really got the festival feel. Unfortunately, I missed a few camps.
Dan from Headwaters in Lodi is unique among kayak dealers. His base of knowledge and addiction to being OTW is a major plus for his customers and the way his whole family lives the paddling lifestyle is pretty cool! The Woolworth's ROCKED and produced a gem of an event that made it fun and easy for everyone and I'm grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Crabfestivities, thanks Victor (Vector). Congrats to Jonesz on a great win too, what a class guy! Lastly, thanks to everyone who attended and who make the Nor Cal community of kayak anglers so special.
Looking forward to next time.

Great day! Congrats to the winners and many thanks to all who helped. The food was unreal and plentiful. We found a glove on a sand dune behind the red truck/camper with the Marine Corps flag. "Hot Shot" black, right hand. Let us know and we can send photo if needed. We'll mail to whomever......tankity tank (aka, Loren) in Napa. :smt006

Had an awesome time this weekend. My first NCKA event of many I'm sure. It was great to pull into camp on Friday night at be greeted by the Loose Screws with Margarita and hot dogs in hand. Thanks so much for welcoming me and my gang of sea kayaks into the fold. Everyone had a great time. I have a few hundred picture I need to go through so I will post them up on another site and share the link later. Also I have a few hours of Footage. Victor and I will be getting together and putting a video together soon. Thanks again and I can't wait for the next one.
-
A special thanks to Mr. & Mrs Vwool, their friend who helped them out (forgot her name), and to Paddleboy and his crew for bring the boats and supporting the event. Food was great. Some of those rocks crabbs were intimidators, you could of put a few chains around the winner and called him the Mr. T of the crab world!

It was awesome meeting all of you guys. Thanks Vwool and Dan for setting up the event. I'm definitely looking forward to the next Crabfest/Ncka meet.
-
I trained a lot harder for eating, than crabbing, for this event and here are the results.
The food was.....WOW!
I gotta say Marvin's red chowder was the best clam chowder I've ever had and with respect to all, the best dish at Crabfest. A close second was the dutch oven cobbler that hit Chadrock and Sarah's camp Saturday evening (who was that?). That was the only cobbler I've ever tried that didn't need ice cream because it was so buttery and rich.
Thanks Everyone!
-
Awesome event, thanks to vwool and company for all the hard work.
I had a great time just hanging out and cooking.

Man was the food good! I didn't even make it past the first two tables! :smt005 I can still tase the last thing I tried though, which was Jim/Dr. H's Habenro Jelly! Damn that was good!!! :smt007 Oh wait, you gave me some! :smt003 Guess i'll have to have some now :smt044

Thanks to all. Even though I am a newbee, I felt welcomed and a part of a great group. Never thought a rock crab would be so rewarded. That new crab trap is a unique design. Will try it out soon.

Glyn -congrats on a well deserved victory. You are one of NCKA's best anglers and put in a lot of time on the water. A first class guy too. I'll give you some better competition next year.
This was my last crab trip for the 2011-2012 season which was the best crab year I have ever had. I can honestly say, after over 100 crabs, I need to find some fish. :smt005 All that said, I really enjoyed the last of my wife's famous crab cakes for the last time until November. Crabfest was a perfect way to end my crab season. Thanks one last time to Victor and Dan. You guys rock. NCKA is a brotherhood and sisterhood like no other. Sunday was really something special as is every NCKA get together.
