Materials (all purchased at OSH Hardware Store):

- 1/2" PVC ($1.29 for a 10ft piece w/ flared tip)
- 2 small hose clamps ($2)
- cheap'ol fishing reel

1) Cut the PVC to the desire rod length
2) Use the small hose clamps to secure the reel to the rod
3) Drill a hole about a foot above the reel
4) For the optional foam grip, I just used a piece of pipe insulation wrapped with electrical tape.

The flared tip is the important.  It holds the sinker and keeps the sabiki from snagging as you reel it into the rod.

ChuckE,

Great post. I was just thinking about purchasing one of these. But instead I think I'll drop by the hardware store on the way home and build one instead.

Thanks,

Jeff

Hell ya Chuck!  That is so cool.  Did you get a new four runner?

Yep... I picked up a used '95 4runner to replace my old '86, but I'm so attached to that old rig, I don't know how I can sell it :smt010

I've been playing around with my new sabiki rod.  It works great on land -- can't wait to try it on the water.

Elric, I have an old Penn 85 baitcaster reel you can have if you like.  The anti-reverse doesn't work, but it should work fine on a sabiki rod until you can find a better "beater" reel at someplace like a garage sale.  I'll bring it Wednesday.

Not having to untangle a Sabiki rig … priceless!

Nice work!
