Has anyone took the newer plastic hatch and retrofitted to the older tarpons with the rubber seal hatch?

I was washing my '08 Tarpon 160i and '12 Tarpon 120 from this weekend's half moon bay event and notice the two hatch are similar size. The tape measure says length and width wise, the newer can fit in the older tarpon.

I talked to HarmonyGear/Wilderness System and they said it was not "designed" for that ...  :thefinger:

I talked to a local retailer and he has never done it.

Seeing if anyone else here has done it.

Good way to ruin a boat... Upgrade and then sell it :smt044
Come on out! It's time to play. It's time for TROUT Bass and STRIPER. Let go of the hand brake!

The newer hatches don't seal as well as the Tupperware style. I'd stick with the older style if were you. Since you have both you should be able to see how they won't work interchangeably. A TKF member had the same question and was given the same answer. Good luck if you try.

I would upgrade if the 09-12 is a big improvement but the only thing I like on the 09-12 version is the hatch. I like the security and the quickness of ... close and lock.

It's not interchangeable but if I cut down the tupperware lip, the orbix hatch looks to fit on top perfectly.

I'm going to remove the hatch on my 120 and make a template to make sure it works.

I don't want to flip and lost my kayak cart. My biggest worry with the rubber hatch.

A easier option would be to add a padeye hook and a bungee .Just my two cents :smt006

I've rolled my 06 over several times just to sit on the bottom for the hell of it and for practice and my battery never pushed open the lid. I like Mikes idea. Just add a bungee or nylon strap and problem solved. No resale issues down the road either.

I have one of "hinged" hatches, why the heck did they abandon the tupperware hatches, if I could convert mine I'd do it.

The kayaks designed for rough water like sea kayaks and or crossover WW boauseful use Tupperware style hatches. They seal way better than the new latch style. I do understand the convenience factor though.
