Title: Now I am home.
Post by: Hydrospider on January 20, 2018, 01:34:59 PM
Tote was right. He said that I would be back.
Sold my house at the lake and purged most of my worldly possessions except for art, books, and gear.
Everything was set for my exciting move North.
I got a call from the president of the company with good news and bad news.
The "bad news" was that he was moving the Oregon base south to a location that I was not interested in. Needless to say I was disappointed. Then, the good news. The company was acquiring a small program in the Eastern Sierra, based right next to the lower Owens river and 90 minutes from Bridgeport.
My disappointment was now a non factor and I headed East with permagrin.

Now, I am settled, 5 minutes from the Owens, and ready to start boating, fishing, and documenting the 395 region. My primary reason for getting a membership with the NCKA is to see if there is anyone who is a member or lurker that is local and running the Owens and the countless other 395 creeks. Obviously shuttle is a big factor in this kind of kayak fishing and having a partner(s) with throw rope skills will come in handy too.

After spending 25 years with Team Bridgeport, paddling, fishing, and exploring this area, I had always wondered what it would be like to live here. Now that I am here, I realize that I am right where I am supposed to be. Home.

Took this behind my place on the edge of town.

Looks like you landed in an amazing place. I remember reading about the Owens River in an old fly fishing magazine years ago.

Welcome back, Terry, although you're a bit farther away than the last time you were in Cali. :) I used to fish the Owens River many years ago, maybe before you were born.  :smt005 Beautiful country there.

Thanks Patrick, and I hope so. As it stands now, I'll be leaving my bike at the take out.

Nice landing after a scary patch.  Yep, the Owens is quite a river, as is the Walker(s).  I've done that ditch the mountain bike at the put-in/takeout thing before, and it's not bad...depending on the details  :evil5:

Polepole and I will be having a conversation regarding Crowley when the season opens. You should be involved in that discussion.

It was just for a year (this time) but it was a long and sometimes rough transitional year.
Ive got an extra river boat for you, but you are going to have to paddle :smt002

I've got a few Sierra trips planned for this summer, and would love to hangout on the river (Owens, or up by Bridgeport like Robinson or Green creek or the Walker!). But I really want to try for a big brownie in upper Twin. So many fun places to explore around there.

All of the above works for me PK.  Im also targeting Walker, below the b-port res, and Lee Vining creek. Prime Coosa waters.
