Me and my buddy woke up at 6 loaded up the kayaks and drove on down to Stillwater cove. We launched the yaks around 9 went out. Swell wasn't hitting the cove at all really so our hopes were high. We got to our spot and hopped in. From the surface I could see about 15 feet but when I got to the bottom I couldn't see the tip of my gun  :smt013. We tried to work with it but couldn't do we decided to quit so we don't get any further behind. :smt012 That first ling has yet again escaped  :smt011. Oh well it was still great to be out and learn the waters but we will be out there again soon to get that ling!

Yeah, those were nasty conditions that day.  Saw you guys as we were driving towards Ocean Cove. That ling will be waiting for you next time... probably was right in front of your gun but the conditions wouldn't allow you to see it.   :smt003

Thx for sharing

You'll get your Ling soon!

Yeah there is quite a bit of sand in the cove in areas so when it gets rough the sandier areas can get super turbid on bottom...

Can be deceiving cuz can look stellar from the surface and then a total mess on bottom.

Next time try spot hopping (even within the cove) to find a more rocky and/or sheltered spot and you may be rewarded with some better viz...

That's one of the big advantages of kayak diving...if it isn't working where you are, get back in yak and try somewhere else!

Keep it up, dive safe, and good luck!

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim
