I have Saturday morning next weekend free and I am looking for an easy trip within an hour drive from Roseville.  I want to keep it to lake waters without too much traffic around. I am still not knowledgeable of fishing and still getting used to my kayak so any help is welcomed.

Outside of this forum I have had a couple of people suggest heading up to Rollings Lake near Colfax. This would be an easy drive, but how is this lake for kayak fishing. I don't have much experience bass fishing and have been targeting trout in other locations.

Any hints or suggestions for this body of water?

Rollins is good for fishing. I’m not sure I’d call it light boat traffic though. At least not on weekends with the warm weather here. The last time I fished there a guy with a wake board came by. That thing put out a serious wake. The swell came at me from the side and behind. I was trolling with a downrigger so there wasn’t much I could do. The wave washed over me and in my kayak. It wasn’t something I enjoyed. That’s why I suggested the port. Pretty light boat traffic when I’ve been there.

VERY close to Roseville is Lake Natoma.  Not sure how the fishing is but I believe there is a low speed limit.  Was just there for a rowing event and came across Willow Creek Recreation Area.  Easy launch site, flat water, great scenery.

Come up to Rollins tonight! (Monday)  I'll help you find the bass, trout and probably some Crappie! Boat traffic will be low and fish will be biting!!! I leave my shop at 4:30 in Auburn and head to Greenhorn camp ground entrance. Come with or without bass lures ("cause I'll have it all) and I'll Sherpa you round the lake. That goes for anyone that wants to get to know Rollins better... 530-887-8649 till 4:30 Ron

Come on out! It's time to play. It's time for TROUT Bass and STRIPER. Let go of the hand brake!

Wish I could get up there tonight but too many things to do.  Homework (back in college after 20+years)  and actual work related reports.

My first chance will only be Saturday morning with my boys.  Will probably go where you are tonight.  I know you usually go in the evening but would be great to meet up sometime.

You also have Camp far West, Scotts Flat, and Berryessa as good easy options.

If you pick a water ski lake, get an early start so you can fish before it gets busy.

Ive also heard good things about Clementine but have not tried it.  If it's trout than there are a lot of choices as you migrate up 80 or 50 (Fuller, Donner, Prosser, Boca, Ice House, Stumpy, French meadows sly park, etc.  Some may not be as easy as others nor only a one hour drive....

I have not heard anyone give a good report from Natomas and Folsom is good to some and not so good to others...

Camp far west can be fun. Lot's of bass and even mythical striped bass are caught every once in a while (big too!!!!)
