General Talk / Re: Great white sharks
« on: December 05, 2021, 10:47:05 PM »
After watching many videos of great whites, including attacks, I’ve come to the solid conclusion that none of them are as daunting as the thought of staying home with my wife around on the weekend. Thank God for fishing.
Uh oh, I would consider staying home with the beautiful daunting wife makes the GWS more familiar and less intimidating...thank God for wives that put great whites to shame... :smt006 :smt007

Call me crazy but at this point I would wonder why I want to anodize the inside of a tube.  Will not just the exterior and maybe 5” into each end provide protection from the elements or are we talking rust and regret in the long run? :smt006

Hey, I'm the crazy one here!

The tubes have holes in them, so water will certainly get inside. They already have a fair bit of corrosion in some spots, and that's what I'd like to prevent (or at least reduce).
Da crazy bros. :smt006  Power to your anodized life!

Going to try fishing china camp on sat. High tide is 11:30 almost a 10 ft change. Called Keith at Loch Lomond and he said fishing has been alright but with the big tide change hopefully it picks up, going to pick up some ghost shrimp. Will launch around 730-8 after picking up bait.
Ooooooo, gotta figure out my anchor trolley fo’ da profisha…hope you get that “boink…boink….boink”… :smt006

Thanks Eddie.. would love to try sturgeon fishing with you
We’ll fish at the appointed time cuz we’ll be fishin’!  It’s quite boring until that precious moment that it goes off but it can be entertaining to be bored freezing on the anchor, you never what conversation evolves on that radio :smt005 :smt006

Hello Fellow Anglers!  New to NCKA site.  I've got a used Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 this summer.  I've been out a few times around Ft Ross, Ocean Cove, etc.  Also started crabbing from the yak this season.  Loving every minute, although I got skunked on Dungees last weekend at Doran.  Looking to go out this Saturday most likely at Tomales.  I'm looking forward to landing my first Halibut next year when the bite is on.

Thanks for adding me to the group.

-Curly
Welcome fellow angler, my buddy Eddie slays on his prowler 13.  There is a buddy call for Tomales this Saturday.  After 10 posts you can access the “members” hookup and report thread.  See ya’ on da wattah’ :smt006

Dang...level 301 surf launch for sure...so sorry...glad your ok...China beach is a little kinder.  It's good to get womped as a gauge of limitations.  Like Al said, go out with a crew or instructor, or watch the sets, even on a "check it out day" and tell your skills, "that's the window, the lull of fear and hope!"  Full safety gear, all gear locked down or stowed, shove off like a boss and don't look back, oh nooooo, I'm gonna get slammed, push through perfectly perpendicular to the slam, spear that thing and paddle on like a boss until your through the set, phew...I made it out, slam in those peddles and get pumpin' then rest and gather the goodness."

Side note, same is true for ankle slappers to 3ft faces which I rarely hope to meet...thanks for sharing... :smt006

Those are great lessons!  Thanks for sharing.  Over the years I’ve learned to unleash my paddle on landing mostly because I go to jump out at the appropriate depth, which takes intuition and timing, yet my foot would get trapped in the leash and I’d get tackled by the leash then the wave.  I’ve also trusted to unleash on launch as well for the same potential mess that has occurred many times.  I am glad that you “had fun” during that session.  That’s the key and once you’re wet, we laugh and commit to the sea’s tolerance of our learning.   I’m glad it was fun. When we’re all decked out for safety and the reality of learning to get slapped around in the surf is super fun.  :smt006

Introductions / Re: Intro - kayak crabbing

Hey, I’m Noel. I discovered kayak crabbing last year after a couple of seasons of just crab-snaring from the shore. It’s all exotic to me — I’ve lived everywhere but never really spent much time catching my next meal until recently.

Hobie Mirage Passport.

After a wildly successful crabbing trip to Coos Bay last February, I’m ready to start doing this locally here in the Bay Area. We’re in Novato, so I plan to head up to Dorian / Bodega and down to Baker Beach on a regular basis this winter. Perhaps Half Moon Bay on an ambitious day. Perhaps staying inside the Bay when I’m seeking just the red ones.

Today looks like a perfect day for crabbing and a picnic. 70 degrees and noon low tide. See you on the beach.
Hi Noel, I'm in Novato as well...glad to have ya' aboard...fishees are food not friends...or something like that... :smt006
