I've never been there, is it much of a commute?

Smoked striper sounds good to me...
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early.

It is not that bad of a trip. If you look at a map it is basically located at 152 and highway 5. From San Jose I think it takes about an hour or so.

Bill - can you post directions for Chris / cpyak? He'll be coming from the East Bay.

Thanks!

Official park map is here - http://www.parks.ca.gov/lat_long_map/default.asp?lvl_id=197

We usually meet at the Medeiros boat ramp (now closed)

So basically you want to get to 101 south, take 152 east, take the highway 33 exit, take a left. Take your first left which will take you to the medeiros area. Pay at the gate (even if no one is there, the ticket is $60+ bucks, trust me on this one). After passing the gate you will come to a fork in the road, stay right, you will go over a small rise and run right into the boat ramp.

Looks like Kickfish will be there, also.  I should be there around 7am.

Ken, I guess that means that your La Jolla trip with John is postponed this weekend.  Hmmm.... the forebay sounds interesting.

So, what's the best method and lure for catch stripers there?

troll to locate the school...once your on the school, toss rattle traps  :smt023

oh...and find the warm water. The last time we were there, the water temp was below 50 and the fishing was slow. When the water turned warmer later in the morning, we started "catching" and not "fishing".... :smt041

I got some good advise from an old timer bass fisherman.... :secret ...if you want to find warm water in a cold lake. Find the area of the lake that has exposed rocks that are on the water. When the sun light hits the rock - it will heat the water around it.

Kickfish Ken had also mentioned that the Big striper that John had caught that day - had crawdads in it's belly - crawdad pattern lure = I think so!

I was thinking about pouring a few red scampis then put them on a fairly light jig head. I also tied up some red tinsel trebles and I am painting some red rattle traps tonight. They better like red!!!

knowing that the water will be murky...I think having a lure with a rattle (or any sound making device) would help  :smt035
