I think pressure.

Example:  2 weeks ago I asked my oldest what their family plans were for Thanksgiving.  My granddaughter's bday is the following week so the decision was we'll just do Thanksgiving with the birthday.

Cool!  I let them know I wanted to do a crab only charter Thanksgiving morning they were cool with that.

Then this past Sunday they asked if I was going to bring crab...Hell Yes I am.  Several more texts later I wanted to clarify this was for the birthday not Thanksgiving right?  WRONG!  A menu was planned and crab won't work...OK I'll bring crab to the bday..WRONG  your granddaughter hates crab, we would of never agreed to crab for her bday!

It continues going sideways at the moment...WTF

I'm gonna show up anyway after my charter trip, see my ex and the grandkids..

ThatÂ’s mild compared to my crazy extended family.  Enjoy your crab trip.  Crab goes with everything.

Oh man, sorry to hear. I'm sure you'll catch a family member hiding on the side and smashing those crab goodness.

I'll be crabbing tomorrow as well. Which boat? If we're on the same boat, I'll have a bottle of beer for you!

In a theoretical nutshell, meltdowns may occur from others or our own expectations and unresolved, subtle or obvious, conflict. .02 :smt006

Several years ago, my family started designating a scapegoat for anything that went wrong during the holidays. Turkey too dry?  Uncle get too drunk?  Sister break the good China?  It’s all the scapegoat’s fault. We rotate the scapegoat every year. This year it’s my niece, who is in grad school now and therefore an adult and needs to get used to everything being her fault.

Obviously around NCKA the scapegoat is permenantly CdM.

Because grandma (like everyone else in the world) mailed Johnny a box of crayons for the holidays and they arrived a day late......and she comes into the Post Office with an attitude like her grand kids entire life is now ruined. And there's a whole line of those all day long.  :smt044 :smt044
