Lake McSwain Trout Derby April 6 and 7.  Must Register before April 2nd.  See attached flyer.

The derby is a bit remedial, but McSwain is a beautiful place to fish in the spring and the payoff could be decent.  Last October at the fall derby I ended up with a smoker full of trout and $465 in my pocket.  Not bad for a little put and take event.

Ridgerunner usually takes one of my spare rooms, but I should have another available if your interested send me a PM.

Not too bad on the water but shore fishing is crowded.  If you bring kids/family and plan on fishing from the shore you will need to get there real early.  If you  plan on kayak fishing, all water craft are required to go/troll counterclockwise and no wake, so it's actually very easy to fish a line or zigzag and stay on it.  The further up river/reservoir you go the fewer boats there are, it's beautiful, peaceful and the holdovers seem to live up near or in the tail water of McClure.  last fall I scored a tagged fish $ way up there.  I do best trolling pretty slow with a Panther Martin or 3.5 inch countdown Rapalla in rainbow trout pattern.  I've also just sat in one spot by the dam and cast spinners till I limit out.

I like mcswain I just don't like dealing with a lot of people.  I might throw my kayak on the lake and see what happens. Thanks for the information.

Had a great time at this event . Myself ,my Dad 5 other friends.  :smt001 Kayak fished it for only one taker on Saturday.  :smt005
My Dad and the others bank fished. Within 10 minutes of fishing Saturday morning....My friend Mike hits a tagged trout that is estimated at 330.00 dollars or so from the pot of money.

Not sure if any one hit the 2 big tagged fish.

Great time as usual.  :smt001
