Update {04/25/2017}:
Just received another batch of Handreels and a new date has been set to hold the Handling Fish & Chill at the Alameda Rock Wall (ARW).
Based on feedback on the forum and via text, this year's event will be held on Saturday, April 29th, 2017 at 07:00.
Okay folks... here's my Paypal email address:
glenarmas@gmail.com
Please pay the amount as a "gift", so the folks at paypal wont dig into the MBF amount.
For those who had there own reels from the last event, MBF is $10.
For those that would like to purchase a handreel for the Fish-n-Chill MBF, the total cost is $35 ($25 for the Handreel & $10 for the MBF).
To ensure these handreels are available for this event, this year will be slightly different:
1.) To reserve your handreel purchase, you need to pay the "Non-Refundable $10 MBF in advance and pay the $25 for the Handreel at the event.
2.) Absolutely none of the 19 Handreels will be given out prior to the event, sorry.
3.) If you opt not to show up to the event, your $10 MBF will remain in the pot and the Handreel will be forfeited for disposition.
Rules will be simply, longest halibut or striper wins the pot. If no halibut or striper is caught, longest fin fish, ray or shark wins....

Maybe we will get another demonstration of drivers doing doughnuts in the lot.
-
I'm interested.

Would like to make this, but that's the weekend after GS!!!!
You're killing me smalls!
Can you do at least a week later or 2 weeks earlier?
No way I can leave that close to the event.

TWO WEEKS BEFORE GS!
Just don't do it in June our ARW HALI Tourney is in June.
-
Maybe combine the two events with option of handline for extra $$ or prize
That way I can attend both

Interested, depends on that weekend, won't know until it gets closer. I would most definitely like a hand reel though if you do an order of some sort.

Guess this date was to close to two other events, including one at the same location only a couple of weeks after; so I will look for a more suitable date to have another Handline MBF....

100lb+ mono spooled onto the handline wheel. Be very, very careful not to allow the line to tangle/bird's nest off the original spool. Tie on a decent swivel and you're all set to use whatever terminal tackle you like. Use a rubberband to keep things neat for storage.

On serious note:
Trying to remember who bought & brought a WHOLE spool of HD line last time, and shared it with others; I'm wondering if he still has anymore left that maybe you and others can use...
for rigging, most 'Carolina rigged" a chovie or herring with a 1oz-2oz egg sinker and a 1/0 hook; and slow drifted it around the wall...

Coolio.... wasnt sure....

Of course! use them if you got them.... this really isnt any requirement on the handreel, as long as retrieving/spooling the line is done by hand; and, its optional to join the MBF, this is more about the fun of catch a fish old skool style... trust me, you have more fun fighting the fish on a level play field... hehehe
Sounds like fun ! I'm in
Glad you can come out and play with the gang!!

Latest word is that it could be over a week to clear.
Hopefully there will be better news soon.

Okay folks, last day to purchase a wooden Handline reel will be Monday 4/25/17; after that I wont be selling them anymore until the next event.
You still can join for the MBF pot all the way up until 7am on Saturday 4/29; as long as you have not been on the water yet.
I will be there around 6am-ish...
Good news: we'll have GREAT weather and calm seas!
Not so good news, we'll be launching into the low-tide; get on the water before 7:30ish, Low tide is at 08:35..
Its gonna be a blast!!! :smt005
-
Looks like I'm definitely in (unless we get another slide during tonight's rain).
Wondering if anyone had an extra yak I can borrow for this event?
I am hoping to drive Verna's Honda, but no rack to transport yak.
Let me know
Thanks,
Eric / Yakhopper

Go figure. They have been hammering the bait at ARW. There have been juvenile schools roaming around. I got hammered by one and it took 45 yards off the spool. I got it to the boat and hooked popped. Nice to see them tho. It's been awhile.

Getting our gear ready for Saturday! Eric and I will probably arrive a little later than most folks, but we'll be there.
The wife is going to bake a batch of brownies for the chill.
See you Saturday.

That would be awesome to hook up on a jWSB on a handline; freak'n will get wood burns as he spools the reel!
what size hook, 1/0 Circle?
