Ok, just talked to kirk. Hes doing 4 hrs of paperwork without pay, catching up from the weekend mayhem. dedicated! the final version is up on DFG site. He asked me to post and get it out there to all of us. When you see him, pls give him props!!

Sailfish, not many people distiguish btwn toppies and jackies, its kinda hard. I wouldnt know the diff if i didnt hang out with kirk a bunch................. :smt001
and still its just my guess, you can never be sure without counting tiny scales and microscopic teeth  :smt004

I get quite a few lizardfish on my sabiki.  They work well as bait.

porky, I see quite a few of them out of Santa Cruz, especially when working the sabiki deeper towards the bottom.  Sometimes they suspend in schools too ... at times I've loaded up a sabiki with them mid-water.

I've not seen them bigger than handsized.  I'd anything you catch on the sabiki would be good live bait.  I'm not fishing more than 60' deep out of SC.  Mostly find them on bottom, but sometimes suspended.

we made bait last weekend and wondered what one was...Looks like it was a Jack Mack. That 2nd dorsal (or adipose) had us stumped.

I catch those almost every time I fish for sand dabs. They make great bait and keep/stay alive fairly well
