Title: Sniff and Chuckle temp posting
Post by: Bushy on January 19, 2008, 01:20:35 PM
We received a rare and valued  visit at the Bushnell household from none other than Joel Lotilla "The Mooch," as he visited Santa Cruz to pick up his new 500cc scooter.  The machine is like your dad's vespa on steroids.

After a cup of coffee and a visit to the "Ops Center" (my garage), my son Max and I introduced Mooch to some of our pets.

To my knowledge, this is the closest Mooch has gotten to a big snake.

Didn't help matters that our python took a strike at my hand as I was attempting to take him out for photo opportunity.  (he's about to shed and just fed, can't really see right now, so I think was just striking at the movement)

Joel of course feels the snake was on high alert due to his (Joel's) intense fear factor.  Might be some thing to that, the snake has never, ever struck at my hand before, and I handle him often.

So, we left the python be, and the pix feature black mexican kingsnake about 5 feet long.

Allen

Nope, Mooch doesn't look too happy near the snake,  :smt002 but he looks REALLY happy on the bike!    :smt004 Happy Birthday Mooch!   -Matt

Nice wheels Mooch. And nice looking snake Allen.

Can you trailer a yak on that, Mooch?! Sweet looking ride bro, congrats.
'Yo Allen, I was just telling Mickfish yesterday to have his snake-catching kid keep a eye out for a hatchling king, I miss having one. That Mex is beautiful, and mooch, Im sure Allen told you but handled kings are about the most mellow pet you can raise.
Put in a rat though, and they become the rodent devil himself...

Note that I was in defensive posture as I had my hand on Allen's back just in case the snake tried to "snake" me. I learned this in a self-defense school for snakes :smt002

Very true Mike, but I'll be taking a Motorcycle Safety Course at the end of the month.

I took HWY 1 from SC to HMB and really enjoyed it. I'm sure I'll be doing this kind of riding more often. Even with the high winds, the scoot (which I will now name "Joe-sepee") did not move around much.

And snakes aren't slimy to the touch, as thought by most people thanks to Hollywood.

I kinda felt like mooch in his avatar picture....., making friends from enemies.  Ben, hope you get a king soon, I have two now, an Eastern variety, very shy; brown with yellow stripes....small.

:smt007 What a beautiful ride, Mooch! Quoting Mickfish, "Just Remember Bikes are more dangerous than snakes." Be safe.

I was just telling Mickfish yesterday to have his snake-catching kid keep a eye out for a hatchling king, I miss having one.

Yeah, I always wanted a CA king--they are SO gentle when raised as a hatchling. Years ago I "adopted" a Sinoloan milk snake that had been rescued from a golf course. I wasn't surprised either--it (Paco) was really feisty and quite the escape artist.

So what happened, J?  Did Paco finally make good his escape?

WE lost our python for 2 months, I found him outside in the seeds in October!

boy was I relieved.

I wanted to bump this one.  I've been looking for it a while now.  Beginning to think I made it up in my head. Finally found it and it brought a tear and laughter.  Again.

I am so glad you put that link up Dustin. Now I know why Mooch told me a long time ago that we could not name ourselves and he called me Rancid Rob that day. I still go by that quite often.

Really got a kick out of the snake picture!  FWIW, I have 15 snakes and most of them are adult King and Milk snakes.

Wow that's a lotta cage cleaning.....that Mexican Black Kingsnale is now over 6 feet long. Very active, alert snake.  twitchy.  Unlike my other snake the ball python who is deliberate, slow (except when striking).  Why do you have so many?  Do you breed them?
