I dont usually shy away from throwing ridiculously expensive baits with wreckless abandon....but that seems to be increasing the cost without any effective added benefit.

why would you link them together?  isn't one good enough?  that would be expensive to lose

Effective added benefit......the extra bar isnt that effective if the same can be accomplished with a topedo sinker and some prism tape:smt001

I just picked up some of the sardine lingcod jigs (they didnt have squid under 16 oz's or i would got those too) these bad boys are gonna do some damage.

Question...

Why would someone pay $15-$20 for a lure that is trying to imitate a $.50 real squid?

It glows at depth
Has its own action buit in
Convenient to use and store
Target larger fish

Doesnt stink
Doesnt leave a slime trail all over you from handling
Doesnt require the use of leaders or other tackle/rigs
Doesnt get bit the f up by every baby fish in a 10 yard radius
If you get bit and dont hook up you dont need to reel up and change baits

Looks good to me, but since most of my rockfish gear ends up in the rocks anyway, I think I’ll just try an awkward shaped sinker and cut out the fishing part entirely.
Warning! Retiree; Knows it all and has plenty of time to tell you about it.

Thanks for the reply, I can see a few of those advantages.
-Glowing is a plus, would certainly draw attention in dark water.
-Action is good.  If it matches or outperforms the attractive movement of a dead squid, this is clearly a win.
-I do believe the larger fish thing, if you are using a lure bigger than a frozen squid.
-Re-baiting incessantly seems like it could be a problem, I haven't had that happen yet in the places I've been fishing.  I could see it being annoying, though.

I guess some of those are pretty subjective, too.
-The convenience seems rather minimal (to me), might save a minute or so if rigs are tied already.  I probably wouldn't run the lure without a mono leader anyway.
-Price doesn't seem to be an issue for a lot of folks in the Bay Area, but it matters to me... (If the lure can stay intact and not snagged in as many trips as 3-4 boxes of squid can last, then this becomes a moot point)
-If I was worried about getting slimy or stinky I wouldn't be fishing  :smt003

P.S. - I'm not trying to argue...and thank you again for your more experienced perspective!
