I am just getting into scuba diving and I really want to try my hand at some freediving spearfishing. I am looking to get a wetsuit, and I was hoping to be able to get one that would serve double duty and that I could use for both freediving and scuba diving. I've seen some videos on youtube that said that freediving wetsuits tend to be thinner but fit tighter than standard scuba wetsuits and that scuba wetsuits tend to be thicker and easier to put on. I plan on diving mostly from Monterey to Mendocino.

Are there any brands/ what style of wetsuit should I look for? Is it possible to get a wetsuit that could work for both freediving and scuba?

TIA!!

I wouldn't. If you get a scuba suit it will suck for free diving. If you get a free diving suit you will ruin it much quicker using it for scuba.

Maybe just buy cheap ones of both.

Or stick to free diving  :smt002

I used my Freedive suit to scuba a couple times since I didn’t have scuba suit.  It got pretty cold the deeper you went and I agree that it will eventually thrash it if used often scuba diving. I’m saving for scuba suit now.

I'm 5'10" and 165lbs, so I think I'm a medium. What do you have? I would love to check them out if they would fit?

Open cell free diving suits are delicate and could be torn/ruin real easy. I would not recommend for SCUBA.

Buy a open cell for freediving and for SCUBA buy an used suit.

where do you live? I have a couple of older but good quality suits that do not fit me that i could let go for a good price., I am in Vallejo

I'm 6'3" 200lbs. My 7mm FJ scuba suit is too small. Got anything that would fit me?

This is all great advice. I freedive and scuba... Don't use the same suit. Pay more for the open cell free dive (mine is 5mm and its great). Used 7mm closed cell 2 piece will be prime for Scuba.
