My opinion is that some competitors do not really care about every single point and this change could encourage new people to play.I would have been able to release fish much faster if this rule were in place, I do not really care about each point or where I end up placing... but still want my fish accepted.  This would allow folks who are not that serious to just slap a fish on the trough, take a quick pic and release. If your worried about every 1/4 " eat it! I choked down that mud salmon from my AOTY year to get that 40" + :smt044 but I did release my striper and may have lost a 1/2" which meant I fell a couple points short of my goal....

Bravo!

I encourage any changes that will enable participants to more quickly measure and release fish.

i have had fish i HAD to keep because they were out of the water to long trying to get a closed mouth shot.
My question is do you really gain anything with an open mouth?

Some form of rule change relaxing the rule is currently leading in a landslide.

There can be, if the fish is measured improperly (i.e bass with mouth open, lower jaw touching end of trough).  If an honest attempt is made to keep the fish's mouth closed, then it is likely to result in less than 1/4" inch in length, which wouldn't affect the fish's point value.  It does appear that most people are in favor of some sort of allowing the mouth slightly open, which is my preference, as its no fun rejecting fish just for a little air gap.  I personally prefer a point deduction but can understand the argument for no deduction.

I've made my voice clear about this issue before. I understand the need for rules, but sometimes people just want their catch entered because they put a lot of time, effort and dedication, and doing it with honest intentions.  I'm completely in favor of the open mouth amendment, but not sure how willing i am to rejoin this game. The DQing of fish really put a bad taste in my mouth. Glad the committee are listening and open to change, plus it makes for releasing fish a lot easier.

I agree with everything you say. I fish by myself sometimes and it's a real pain to try to keep the mouth closed and get a decent pic of a big fish when you're alone.
