Went out for a North Sur shoredive Saturday AM with my buddies Matt and Ale (Matt is at NPS right now and Ale is his wife from Costa Rica)...jump in/out was way rougher than expected, water was murky and no good fish were taken.  :smt009 :smt010

But...Matt and Ale were troopers, and I was very impressed with their positive attitude and Ale's diving ability...

I followed her on one drop while we were looking for a pole spear that Mat had dropped at 50+ feet and she was down there on the bottom just chilling and looking around!! Luckily right then I saw the band of the pole spear sticking up from a thick patch of dark undergrowth and found the polespear!!

Later Ale told me she had seen a big "orange looking fish" while looking for the pole spear...when I showed her a pic of a Red underwater she said "Si, just like that!"  :smt005 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

Now at least she knows what to shoot next time!!  :smt002

On the way home I gave them a little tour and pointed out some other beaches and spots etc.

Sunday we decided we needed to redeem ourselves so went out with my buddy Jeff on his beautiful boat the Porto Bella with Matt, Ale, Manuel, and Chris.

Jeff had set his 5 pots the day before with a bunch of fish carcasses/heads/guts from my freezer and some frozen squid I bought at Moss Liquors.

First two pots were empty, third was totally missing, fourth was moved off its GPS mark and had all bait eaten and no crabs (Crab Burglars suck!  :smt013).

Fifth had 5 jumbos though.  :smt003 :smt007 :smt004

Then we pulled out the rods and reels...

First couple spots were dead and than all of a sudden it turned ON!!

I was on the swim step with net and was busy AF netting double and triple hook ups!!

Ale got the big fish of the day with a beautiful meaty Ling...her first Ling and biggest fish ever! She also got a whopper of a sand dab, and a nice Canary!

Manuel got his PB Ling and a small Boccaccio.

Chris got his PB Ling and a fat Boccaccio.

Matt got a solid chunky Copper.

Once we had the cooler looking nice and full we raced back to shore to meet my wife and girls, boiled up the crab and cleaned the fish, then headed over to Alvarado Street Brewery for beers and apps and shenanigans!

Great weekend with awesome folks!!

Here's a few pics.

 :smt006

Sincerely,

Jim
