I’ve finally put the finishing touches on my compilation video from the 2015 season.  All footage was collected from the kayak between Big Sur and HMB trolling along the bottom with a GoPro mounted on Video Fins from Groupbinc.com. Various hookless lures were used to attract subjects.   I got some interesting footage this year, and dialed in my camera setting to maximize lighting and picture quality. Bump the resolution up to 720 for best quality. Thanks for looking.

Cool video.  Can you watch on phone as you are trolling with wifi app? Or is the signal weak because of the water.

I don't think wifi signals travel well thru water.

I was thinking that might be the case.  Was looking at wired options with real time viewing that I may give a try this year.

Thank you for posting that. Totally amazing. What do you think the "hit" rate is for time spent OTW v empty water footage?  Guessing took a wack of editing, clipping!  But so worth it dood. Awesome

Thank you for the responses. I am very happy with the variety of species this year; especially the marauding school of bonito.

I have never even tried to use a wifi or bluetooth connection as I doubt the signal would penetrate very deep. All video was shot blind and screened at home, which can be a tedious task. It is very interesting to observe not only fish behavior, but local geology. This makes reviewing footage quite fun.  There are far more dynamic reef systems in places I previously thought were fairly plane.

Lighting is the most complicating aspect. I've found that in good visibility and direct sunlight, I can get to about 90 ft before loosing too much light to make it worth it. Its a judgment call that can mean the difference between 4 hours of dark pixely shades of green, and good clean footage. Its been a learning process as is evident by the improvement from the 2014 trolling vid.

The ratio of of fish time to non-fish time depends entirely by where I am. Over the reefs and in kelp, rockies and lings are plentiful and usually quite curious. The lings often attack the fin itself. While trying to film a halibut and WSB over sandy beaches, there is large portion of non-fish time. I was super stoked to have filmed that halibut bust out of the sand and whack the swim bait.  That fish may not have even been legal sized, but it was huge success personally.

That's awesome footage.

I have a homemade "troll pro" that I used just a little bit (usually, running it off of the downrigger), so I know how tough it is to get quality images when running blind like that. Your vid inspired me to do a lot more of that kind of filming this year...
