I have been co-ordinating tourney dates with Bill and we have decided on a date of Saturday, September 24th, 2005 as the official date for the first ever Mendo Kayak Tourney.  This is premium topwater season, so get ready to paddle far and fast!

We will be in the Angels Camp group camp site.  This will be a heaviest 2-fish limit format.  Afternoon weigh-in and striper fish fry for dinner.

More details to follow...

Yup... our buddy Stu has some serious derby mojo.  He's placed either 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the last 4 kayak fishing derbies he's entered.... except the one he let me win, of course :smt002

You guys are too much.  Its all luck.  Plus I'm definitely getting rusty.

Really looking forward to this one.

Sean,
I'm sure a lot of folks have never been to Mendo (myself included).  Would it be possible to get an overview of which way to head out, etc. or is it pretty much hide and seek with the shad.
Speaking of shad, is it avail in baitshops or do we have to catch our own?

In Santa Nella (right by the San Luis Forebay, they are $1/each).  OUCHH!

Stuart

Stu- I will pre-fish the heck out of the lake and provide NCKA members with the latest and greatest right up to the tourney.  I also imagine Joel will be sleeping on my couch for at least a week or so before the tourney so you can ask him too. :smt003

In October the shad are not around to be caught, minnows are all thats around.  They are also $1.00 each, but that time of year you will only need 2-5 a day, its the topwater season.  Bait availability is sometimes unreliable in the fall, I will procure a stash of AA+ specifically for guys in the tourney.

Dude this tourney sounds just as tempting as the Elk Cove one. Sounds like another to take a Norcasl field trip.

What's the word on this Lake Mendo Striper Tournament?  I was hoping to hear it offically announced this past weekend.

Here are some of the reasons I'm stoked to come ...

1.) Group camping again.  At the Elk tourny this was an excellent way to get to know other kayak fishers and their families.

2.) Late September on Lake Mendocino = Warm water = No wetsuit required

3.) September 24th is a California DFG free fishing day (so invite a friend)

4.) I now have a second fishing kayak for my wife

5.) Sean is hosting again and this time in his home town.

Brian this has been "out" for a while, and we would love to have the BML crew join us again.  This will be a campground setup, with no buildings etc.

We'll try a potluck this time since there seems to be some serious tail-gaters amongst us.

Time for me to start watching the lake and linesides, I'll keep everyone posted.
