How about attaching extensions to the downspout to drain the water elsewhere?

Well, this is about a 3-4 foot strip of land between my  house and neighbors driveway, that runs the whole side of my house.  I don't want to move the problem to another location on this strip.  So the solution would be to pipe it out of this strip, and perhaps dump it into my front yard, or out to the curb, or whereever I can legally dump this out to.  Easy peasy, dig a trench, install some drain pipe.

Or install catch barrels at the downspout end & start your own aquaculture project!  :smt003

A catch barrel might be the best solution with the current drought if you have a garden or water thirsty trees.

Redirecting to the curb was what I had in mind.

Why not post a Hookup, BBQ, Beer, etc?

Then we can all watch as you hack the stuff to pieces  :smt003

Or water thirsty bamboo!  That strip of land would certainly hold a nice row of 50 gallon barrels, and I can still pipe the overflow to the curb.  My neighbors would hate it, which means I would love it.   :smt004

I did a quick calculation on the roof area that this gutter drains.  One decent storm and it would dump ~300-400 gallons down this pipe.

Just an update ... I had an engineer come out to inspect the foundation.  He confirmed that I just need the corner area repaired and not the whole foundation.  That's a relief ... like an $80K relief!!!  They are drawing up the plans as we speak.

I still have to deal with the bamboo, but here's my plan for now.  The thing that needs immediate attention is any escapees that are heading toward my neighbors.  I'm going spend a day this weekend chasing them down.  Now that the "shooting" season is ending, the runners will start growing so I need to get to the escapees before they spread even further.  The rest of the bamboo will get put on hold for a couple months while the foundation gets addressed.  They need to dig up about a 2' strip of the bamboo near the foundation anyways.  So they'll take care of some of the diOnce the foundation and drainage is addressed, I'll reconsider my options with the bamboo.

My current thought is that I'll have it replanted and the barrier replaced.  The bamboo is just too nice in my yard and it provide cover from the 2nd story of the neighbors house which would otherwise look down right into my backyard.

That's the plan anyways ...
