Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Lights on a truck bed extender ?
« on: January 18, 2023, 06:29:08 PM »
I used a kit from Harbor Freight. These are magnetic but the magnets are not strong enough for pot holes. I used zip ties and electrical tape to secure them. This gives running lights, brake lights and turn signals. I think this much safer at night.

Yikes!!!!  That's why I use the burlap bag method
I had a burlap but did not use it. I will from now on.
How was the the swell at Trinidad. Coming up to Humboldt this weekend. If conditions are right I might try it out.

You're lucky DFW didn't check your ling when you landed. I'm pretty sure it was undersized 😉
I was worried about that. The biologist was there to check out the fish. Interesting that he said he did not know what the minimum size was.

maybe it was small shark. Thresher?

Thresher mouth is pretty small - bait eater...

Mike was fishing in tight by the point, and that's where the landlord often hangs out.

At one point yesterday Yaad saw something near us and tried to point it out, but it was gone before we could get eyes on it.  We were a mile offshore.
I think it happened when I was pulling the crab traps near the surf.
We not be hanging any fish over the side anymore. I had a burlap sack but did not use it. Lesson learned

Monster salmon! Great write too. Thanks for sharing

Fished Shelter Cove this weekend. Saturday caught some blacks and a ling and a couple dungies. When I pulled my yak onto the shore and looked at my stringer half of the ling was gone.
Went back today for the same stringer but kept the fish on the boat. They are so sneaky. Never even saw him.

What does a fishing guide on on his day off? Go fishing of course.
Love the pictures Eric. Hope to make it to the cove next weekend.
It has been too long.

I have not done the bleeding of fish but will now. Was not sure of the proper method but after seeing the comments on how it is done I will be doing this in the future.
Thanks for all the tips. Know I just gotta catch some fish!!
