last summer me and a buddy were sturgeon fishing in broad slough , he hooked a fifty something inch fish early but the action got slow later in the day , we decided to pull the plug but before heading back we should plug for some stripers a while , we start workin the bank and out of nowhere my buddy catches the tules and gets his rattle trap stuck , he starts working the trolling motor towards the tules to take it off , meanwhile im undoing a birdsnest from a previous cast , out of nowhere my buddy punches me in the face **BAM** , im bout to turn around and toss him off the boat before i realize he had no reason to hit me , in fact he didnt hit me at all , instead it was him tuggin on his rod and the lure popped off from the tules and hit me clear in the face! , my face is kinda numb from the hit but i put my hand to my face and feel the lure
"is it stuck" i ask
the look on his face he really didnt have to answer but he did anways
"dude its fu*ked up!..im fu*king sorry bro!!"

naw we took off , it was a bumby ride back too and i felt everybump , i was kinda worried about people at the marina laughing at me but it looked like i was holding a rattletrap shaped cell phone up to my ear , noone noticed

had to get it removed by a doctor

then in novemberim out fishing alone and hook into a 57 inch fish, kinda tricky to snare it from my boat so i decided to just grab the fish by its mouth and lay it in the boat , the fish starts actin crazy and the second hook on the leader hooks into my leg , the weight of the fish plus the fish flapping around kept diggin the hook deeper , i cut the leader though then pulled the hook out , no biggie
i got a thing with hooks

the doctor was a cool guy too , he was from back east and we talked about striper fishing and compared fisheries , they got it made out there on the striper front.

I read this a while back I do not know if it works   how to remove a hook#

Cut about 12" of fishing line and loop it around the middle of the bend in the hook.
#
Step 2

Wrap the two tag ends around your finger a few times to gain a good grip.
#
Step 3

Push the shank of the hook down to the skin
#
Step 4

Give a quick, firm tug on the line. This should pull the hook free.

Hooked myself on the finger last year at the FW's derby in the Delta.  Kept on fishing and hung around for the BBQ/award.  Went home in the afternoon and tried to remove the hook myself after numbing my finger in ice and it still hurt like hell!  Can't punch the hook through to cut the barb since it's a treble hook.  Went to Kaiser's non-emergency room to have it removed.  After several Novocaine injections, the nurse tried to cut the hook shank so she can push it through but she couldn't so I had to cut it myself.  I got to be more careful with treble hooks from now on  :smt003

I know your pain.

My first trip yak fishing I was trolling a crankbait on a one pound ball. I hooked up on a 25" Ling and when I brought it to the boat I didn't know if it was legal. So I proceeded to grab the fish by it's gill plate for a measuring. Huge mistake. The Ling started thrashing around and I ended up w/ 3 hooks on the front treble buried in my pinky and ring finger. Honestly I sat there for maybe a second or two thinking this is not happening. So the fish is thrashing and the one pound ball is flopping around and I eventually got the fish between my legs and unhooked it.
2 of the hooks were through past the barb and the third was buried just to the point of the barb all on the same treble. My ring and pinky fingers were pinned together. So I paddled in with the bait dangling and cathing various things on my yak.  I got to shore and another yak fisher lent my bro and I a pair of nice side cutters.  I popped the hook (that wasn't past the barb) out and my bro cut the barbs off the other 2 and I pulled the shanks out.

I went back out and caught two nice gophers, you guessed it on the same rig (different crankbait). This was at MBK about 4 months ago and thanks again to the fellow yakker that lent me those cutters and first aid stuff. Also, I troll nose hooked swimbaits now.
