Depends on the type of fishing. I prefer to fish hallow in the kelp and I use 1-3oz vertical/flutter type jigs rigged assist style. I work the jig on the bottom fast in a hot bite with almost no pauses. In a slow bite I do a lot of deadsticking. Move often because the strikes usually come quick. For deeper water I like a slider rig with a whole squid when the drift picks up. For days when the drift is slow I like a big swimbait. Main thing is to find the areas with a high amount of structure (pinnacles and ledges) and the lings will be close by.
