You are right Brian, I searched for round trip fairs but the dispaly only shows one direction at a time.  My bad.  The round trip fairs are about double what I said earlier.

A direct quote from a friend of mine in Anchorage:

Quote
A hint... Find a fare you can live with that is 100% REFUNDABLE and then search regularly between now and launch date for a cheaper fare... Use the "flexible" dates feature in most travel search engines and such... You may find a killer deal between now and your trip... I have seen recent prices on trips that would blow your socks off...

Allen,

If I can afford the trip, I'll give a seminar on catching those 'Alaskan Fighting Rocks'.

My one bit of advise is bring LOTS of socks. Putting on dry socks twice a day in the sog makes things so much nicer after wearing waders for most of the day.

Brian:

You must travel North, pilgrim, and seek vindication.  Your self-imposed penance must end.  You need a new quote for the bottom of your posts as well as a new avatar.

I imagine something like this:

""HOLY *%*#; IT'S HUGE!  GET IT IN THE NET!!!"

Whaddya think?

Mooch, I don't remember who that girl was. Somebody's wife. SRM, the trip could possibly be the very first week of Aug if everyone agrees but I'd rather leave it as is if possible.

I'm headed out right now to do some scouting and will post a report after the weekend. I'll be out of touch until then.

Talked to Howard tonight.  He took a trip up to the Thorne Arm area.  Still a lot of ice, but he had no problem catching rockfish and giant shrimp for dinner!

Took a look at the map and figured out the area for this trip.  Howard says there's islands to camp on.  Probablility of silver salmon and undoubtably chums.  Plus, the HUGE halibut, lings, etc..

If this works, I'll post the map below

Wow!  This looks like another great trip, Howard.

To save a nice chunk on airfare, here's what you can do:

Go the the Alaska Airlines website, find the link for their Visa card and apply.  I think it costs $75 per year, BUT it gives you a $50 companion fare certificate each year.  In other words, the card holder pays full fare and the companion flys along for $125 round trip (after card fees and companion fare) saving about $500 from the Bay Area to Ketchikan.

I just need to convince my wife to go...not.  :smt005 If I end up going I will be looking for a "companion" to help with the savings.
