Is there a max size of photo that can be uploaded and, if so, what is the max? I thought it was 1MB, but I've tried a few that were larger recently and they got thru...

I think it depends on how many pics you include in the post.

Yes there is a max size around 1mb or 1024kb.  How big was your file?

I think I have it set to 8GB, but that is the sum total amount for all of up to 8 attachments.  I can probably increase that if you all are finding it annoying.  The forum will automatically resize the photos to a maximum dimension of 1024 pixels, so the end storage space, which is what I'm really worried about, is limited by the resized size.

In the past, I would post up to 8 pics of 200 kb to 300 kb with no issue. Recently, I received the max limit reached message.

I'd think that at a minimum it should take a couple of default-sized smartphone photos. At least on the iPhone, that can exceed 8M...

OK, what I said was not entirely correct.  There are 2 parameters, upload_max_filesize and post_max_size.  The upload_max_filesize is set to 8M and is for a single file and not cumulative.  The post_max_size is set to 16M as is the cumulative value.  I'll see about tweaking these values, but that will be for another day, when I have some time to monitor system impact and revert quickly if something goes wrong.  Will like be after 2 weeks, since I have some upcoming travel.

Do you prefer that we reduce the size of photos before attaching them to a post?  Or is it OK to attach full sized photos and let the forum's software reduce the size of the photo?

I prefer we get to a point that it isn't perceived as a hassle.   :smt006

Either is fine.

It would be really nice if we could position the codes for photos between paragraphs of text, rather than having them automatically end up at the end of all the text.

Then why not set a much higher limit? Does it create some kind of bottleneck? All I can see is that bigger files will take longer to upload, which should only be an issue for the uploadee.

Ummm ... didn't I say I was going to try it?  Asking again won't make it happen any time sooner.

I do PAY for storage and bandwidth.  The original limits were set due to storage reasons, but I installed a resizer, which addresses that problem.  Bandwidth, I think we have plenty for now after the last server upgrade.
