I would like to go spearfishing (free dive) while in NW LA this weekend. The swell looks pretty small. Won't have the yacks with me so shore diving is the only option (unless we need to rent yaks to dive from while down there as the only option).

I heard that Santa Monica (where my wife will be) is too dirty and the fish not good to eat...

Anyone willing to share a location on where to shore dive (or only if necessary, kayak dive)?

Feel free to PM me as needed.

UPDATE: Looks like Harrisons Reef aka County Line beach is a favorite among forums. Anyone have experience with this place or somewhere better?

Upon a LOT of scouring the interwebs, it appears that the BEST place to go overall (in the area we will be in - aka not Orange County but more like Santa Barbra) is the Kelp Bed off of Countyline near Neptunes Restaurant. Another place we heard was good (only on a really small swell day) is Deer Creek Road. All the others seem to say about the same - crummy visibility overall and nasty swell.

Spearfishing tomorrow with a broken pinky will be interesting but I have set up a new DIY dive board to help with gear. If anything interesting happens, I'll make a video or send a report. =)
