80 was no problem with the dirt bike and the kayak on the truck

If strapped correctly, be it upside down on bars, or right side up on pads make sure you have as much contact with the rack/pads as possible.  Double over each strap, use front and rear tie downs.  You should be able to shake the vehicle by pushing on the kayak, but the kayak should not move. If your straps start to vibrate put a twist in them to make it stop. My top speed has been 80, but usually 65-70.

75 mph has not been problem on top of Suburban with bow/stern lines but change in air temperature has, straps can loosen especially going from hot to cold and if you leave kayaks on top overnight, check often

I drive with the flow of traffic, kayak upside down on the crossbars with a bow strap. As a rule I don't tailgate, weave, and I try to use my turn signal all the time. I never drive above 25 in neighborhoods.  In my younger days I used to be more reckless, but my dad taught me always to chill in the neighborhoods by driving 25 or below.

I dont live under 80 mph........
Live your life, the way you want to be remembered. Don't have any regrets, we only get this one dance to make it count. Start at your eulogy, and work backwards.

I have never had the kayak slow me down.  I don't strap the kayak that tightly because it leaves dents and I don't use a bow strap. Just a single strap snugly over the saddles and another over the rollers. The kayak isn't going anywhere.

well it goes 200 but so far like 120-140 just to check a few things, I never look down at that point though so lets say 120....yet to try it with a kayak

Edit: sorry I waited till the thread died down some - couldnt help myself  :smt044

We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.

I want to stay as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all kinds of things you can't see from the center.

People aren’t supposed to look back. I’m certainly not going to do it anymore.”
