Was trout fishing with an old Manuel down rigger. Ready to toss it out. Has a nut on top that you loosen the tension. Useless. Saw one the other day on a kayak, had a pole holder attached. Never got a chance to speak to the owner of the kayak. Anyone have any Suggestions. Thanks.

I think you saw a Scotty 1050 or 1060.
Google it.

This is what I use. It has a nut on top and I use it successfully on my kayak. How is yours rigged? Maybe a different location would make it easier to use. Also I use a shuttle hawk so I don't have to raise and lower it as often. I'll be using mine tomorrow fishing for kokanee.

The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions for hope.  ~John Buchan

I was having trouble with my laketroller until I took the nut off and applied some silicon grease to lubricate a couple surfaces that had too much friction. Put the nut back on and it's made a world of difference. Might want to give it a try before tossing it.
