Halibut season

I was wondering when the tomales bay halibut season usually ends?

I usually catch fish there june-early September.
I was the guy that talked to you right after you caught that short. Did ya get any others?

October 31st Pacific Halibut. Midnight December 31st 2017 California Halibut

Any recommendations for the Monterrey bay or moss landing area.  I know they were catching halibut out of moss landing in mid August.  I went out twice but no luck with halibut.  I did catch rock fish.  I was fishing between 20 and 40 feet of water, drifting strips of smelt or live whole smelt about 10".  I used a 60lb mono leader because its stiff and doesn't tangle much.

thought about dropping back to a 20lb fluorocarbon leader

It's usually wrapping up around now. I've heard of halibut caught in October...but not very many.

There were butts in shallow last Thursday in Monterey, and water was the warmest I have ever felt over there.

I saw more butts (mostly short but several keepers) that day than I have the whole year combined so far...

I would think there is a good chance right now for you hook and line guys in the usual areas...

Hmm, good point on the weather.  I'll go tomorrow.  I'm new to the area so their isn't any usual areas for me.. haha I'll take any pointers I can get.  Back home we relate to structure and drop offs, so I'd imagine the same here.  I just need to start collecting waypoints for fish.
