Sunday morning, December 3rd I will be fishing at the Cosumnes River Preserve, which is south of Elk Grove and Sacramento. I will get there at 7:30 and targeting large mouth bass. I would be happy to show you around. Bring crankbait in shad pattern and/or senko whacky rigged and also a rattle trap if you have one of those. Meet in the parking lot - I drive silver Toyota 4runner with yellow Ocean kayak trident. Hope to see you there!
-
How's the vegetation in the water this time of year? There was a time you could almost walk across it--made fishing (even moving) difficult.
-
I love that place. Is the parking lot gate open at 7:30am during the winter months?
-
The waterplant vegetation that was a problem is not there now. And the gate was opened last Saturday at 730. I hope y'all come out. Its truly is a gem. Lots of bird life to look at too. I will stay close to the dock at first and have radio tuned to ch 69. Give me a call from parking lot if you don't see me.

In all my years of boating and yakking the delta, I have yet to venture into the preserve. Definitely on my short list of places to check out.

Putting this on the radar. Would love to join if I can pull it together!
-
Where is the parking lot? I work weekends but i'd love to check it out
Nvm, I looked up location. Do you ever catch stripers in there? Looks like a cool spot.
-
Yes there are stripers and salmon too. Parking lot is small.
-
I've never been up there,is it easy to find?

Good chance I might come join you
-
I might join too. Is there lots of crappie in there? Hoping to catch some dinner
-
Yes there are crappie too. I caught a pretty big one last weekend near the dock. Someone else asked if it's easy to find. I think it is. Here is the address. 13501 Franklin Blvd. Galt, CA 95632

Hit me up when you decide to make the journey Wes, It really is an amazing fishery! I miss that place most of all since I left the delta. Ill be at your old home water on Monday chasing crappie and stripers :) that will have to fulfill my fix for now!

Awesome. Was out there last week. Not fishing, but hiked the lake early one morning. Lots of boils between the launch and inlet on North end. Let me know how it goes!
-
I'm in, see you there, grey urban camo T13. I don't know anything about bass fishing but I'll be there with shad crankbait, senko, rattletrap, and high hopes, unless the ocean miraculously decides to lay down this weekend.
-
Is there a boat launch there or somewhere to pull the truck up close to the water? Or is it a jungle launch?

What place are you going to on Monday for crappie?

There is a dock. You can't pull up to it and it's a good 300 foot or so walk but it's on a nicely paved sidewalk and not bad with wheels. The visitors center may have loaner wheels.
-
Just like Santa Cruz...there are no fish there...
Cosumnes should be clearer by then, was a bit muddy the other day. I値l try to make it out
-
If my Sunday remains free I may come do this. Like to fish new areas and meet new folks plus, I'm new to the kayak world so could use the tour!
-

any radio recommendations? I use them all the time for work but they're $600 a piece Motorolas. Looking at amazon for under $100.
-
I'm in, I'll be there at 7.30am.
-
Just confirming I値l be there 0730. I値l be in the red Tacoma with the green/black WS radar 135.
-
I'll be there around 7:30.......silver Tundra and a Outback.

Is this water OK with a Hobie......or is it real shallow? Is there a parking fee and if so how much? I hate getting there and discovering the fee is 5 bucks and all I have are 20's.
-
Kokoloco it can get shallow. Low tide is around noon. I can show you where to be careful.
-
Maybe I'll bring the paddle boat.....no FF but it can go in 3 inches of water.
-
Thanks y'all that came. I think everyone caught some fish. I caught a crappie with my first cast and 8 bass. I think kokoloco may have caught the most. I think he said 14 bass throwing a crankbait. Nice weather but the Mokelumne River had some challenging current. Every where else was easy going.
-
Thanks ronaldo. I am no longer skunkiferous on the mighty cosumnes. Thanks for offering the hookup.
-
Thanks Rolando, it turned out great. Nice to meet everyone and really enjoyed my day. Great location, can't wait to fish there in the spring. That place will be nuts.
-
Awesome day of fishing and nice meeting you guys. Between the bass and the crappie, I lost track of how many fish I caught. At least a dozen bass, a few decent ones. A bunch of crappie all over. Lots of small ones but I took home 7 decent size ones for dinner! (http://)
-
Did not see this thread as I come here once in a while.. But I was out there and ran into you guys too. I'm the guy with the solar yellow radar 135 and my cousin in the native slayer. We managed a few small bass, seems you guys put the hurt on the bigger ones lips for the day haha.
-
Thanks again for the hookup Ronaldo....it was a hoot. Nice meeting some Norcal guys I didn't know. I ended the day with 12 bass with the top 5 going 14-16 inches. A Speed Trap crank did the trick. That area is way cool....my first time there and definitely on my radar from here on out. Thanks again.

If anyone is ever going back here, I'd love to join. It's a great location.
-
Nice photos. I actually was able to check it out this morning caught 8-10 bass myself of which 3 were over 12 inches the rest were dinks. I lost probably 20 fish though... think I bought some cheapo jig heads haha.

I知 gonna head back there tomorrow to try for catfish. I saw some pretty good size marks on the bottom on the fish finder and I知 hoping they were catfish and would like to play. Anyone is welcome to join.
-
What time ? I may just join you.
-
Saw similiar marks on consumnes river. Was thinking sturgeon but either would be cool. Let me know if you hook up.
