:smt006 Just curious how many members have Hobie Mirage Sports and how we use them/why we like them.

For my family the Sport it is perfect.  It fit's everyone from our large size son (tho he'd probably be better in an Outback or Revo) to his small size wife.   My wife and I are both small people and in our 50's.   We prefer stability to speed.   And the little yak is SO easy to carry.  No wheels or racks required.   Just put it in back of the little Toyota truck and go.   We use it mostly on local rivers, and on the ocean only on very calm days, like at Van Dammne or Mendocino Bay.   Mostly it's just plain simple and fun.

I have 2 for my boys :smt052...

Hooked up Piranna Depth finders on them, and they have been flawless..

I've used them, and find that it is just as comfortable as my outback, it is a little slower,

For tight places on lakes for bass fishing structure I like it better, tighter turning and more responsive.

Overall, I like my Outback More, but the Sport does have it's place in my Arsenal :smt066.... Danglin

 :smt006 Hi Danglin,

Nice Hobie Navy you've got going there.  A good general rule of thumb I read on the KFS Hobie forum that helped us choose the Sport was that if you're under six feet/200 lbs., and don't need to go fast, or the extra room, then get the Sport.   Otherwise, get the Outback or other larger Hobie.

We love using the maneuverable Sport to explore the little side channels in the Big River Estuary.

What model of Piranha depth finders did you set them up with? I'm mostly interested in reading depth and bottom contours of the rivers.
Keep on pedalin',

I had a sport for the past few seasons and decided that I needed more room and speed so I went to a Revolution. Very happy with the stability and speed in the open ocean. My sport was great for the back of the truck, but the bare hull weight on my Revolution is only ten pounds more. I would have kept the Sport if I didn't have to sell it to buy my big boat. I miss the little girl. :smt010

 :smt006 Hi CoS,

Congrats on your Hobie Revo.   The Revo was our second choice also but we thought we'd start small with the Sport.

I see that you're in Los Osos.   Isn't that near Baywood Park?   My Dad grew up in Avila and Baywood in the 1930's, and there were three houses in all of Baywood then.  Then after WWII when he got back from the Pacific the town was full of houses.   I haven't been there in many years but have fond memories of boating with the family in Morro Bay in the late 1960's.   Oyster heaven.

Hey Matt,
Yep. I actually do live in Baywood and I couldn't imagine how great it would've been with three houses. I'm sure they were all close to the bay too. It's still a cool seen there though. I'm lucky to be there.

Check this RAM post my boss built me for my sail mast hole. It's about as tight a fit as you'd want with the pedals, but it worked out perfectly.

Hey CoS.  That custom RAM ball in the mast tube is a GREAT idea.  :smt023

How does it stay in and keep from spinning with the rod tube attached and keep from falling out when upside down on your car rack?

If it works well, I'd be willing to buy something like that!

Chuck E,
The shaft for my Revolution isn't part of the hull, so I just drilled through the post and shaft and bolted a stainles 1/4-20 through it. It fits snug, the way a seatpost on a bike does, and has no slop in it at all. We're still working on tecturizing the ball so the RAM doesn't spin on it. I have some shrink tubing on the ball now to give it some grip and it works for now, but this is the first prototype. I'll ask my boss what he wants for one and PM you when I find out.
