 Hey, How ya'll are?
wondering if anyone of ya'll have ever tried to add ballast to the front end of your 'yak?
I thought if I was carrying a load of an ice chest, dry, and other such stuff, estimate around 20# or so, right behind me in the tank well of a prowler 13, maybe I should have the option of adding forward weight.
Any reply would be appreciated as I am new to the world of sot fishing

For tandems paddled solo, I have of people filling up a couple gallon milk jugs w/water to balance out the weight in the front.  When you land enough fish, you can usi it as a front balast, then dump the water.

If the kayak is a single, I doubt you'd need a balast.

I have a constantly ongoing project to add ballast to the front.

At first I tried those herbal supplements.  Not only didn't they add the necessary bulk, they were expensive!
No matter how much I took, the girls weren't any more satisfied.

Seriously, though, I'm constantly adding ballast to the front.  For example, last night I had an extra helping of cheesecake.  If you want to add weight to the front, I understand that's the best way.

hey the milk jug idea is good!

This issue also occurred to me.

I have my trolling setup putting a fair bit of pressure in the center of my tankwell.

I was worried about the nose of my SPTW sticking out of the water a bit, wheelie style.

thanks again stuart!

I guess filling those jugs with water and freezing them would give you an ice chest up front
too.

In my tandem I bungie the cooler into the front seat (sometimes a rubbermaid bin).  With the cooler you can put a few gallons of water in it, then pop its drain open when you have enough fish for ballast.  Otherwise the fish stay nice and wet and cool in the cooler.

I don't think I'd ever bring out unnecessary weight except maybe solo in a tandem. Just distribute what you bring. Weight slows you down.
On the other hand, it can add stability.
