I'm looking for a light and stable kayak. The biggest criteria is that the hull is inaccessible. A decent seat would be nice too. Just something I can toss in the back of my truck for Shadow Cliffs that they can't inspect inside for condensation. The condensation on top of the hull interior always seems to kill any effort drying the interior of my kayak between my house and SC. They have been lenient so far but recommendations wouild be cool. Polepole showed me one that might work but I'd like to see alternative ideas.

Ya, the malibu two is the one polepole showed me. I'm not terribly fond of the seat, would the ones that fit a Trident 13 work? My aftermarket Trident 13 seat is comfy and I can't for the life of me remember the name of it. Expedition something, I think.

I think any aftermarket soft seat will work on that kayak.

How about if you glue the hatches shut, and tell the inspector that they are decorative...

Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Once you have your kayak dry inside,,, it's best to leave any existing hatches open during storage.  Humidity in the air condenses , especially when transporting it during the cold early mornings.

Might consider a  sit-in. kayak.  even the roto-molded ones are super light.   I have a Perception,,about 30 lbs.   100 bucks.

M2 would be the one that comes to mind for me.  not terribly light, but managable.  what about a fishing SUP?  you can paddle them from a seated position as well as on an ice chest type seat.  The Native versaboard angler would not count since it does have one small hatch in the back.  But I think a Jackson SUPerfishal might fit the bill.

But if you're interested in the VersaBoard, I believe Dan carries them.  Native also sells an aftermarket seat that is well cushioned and is designed for paddling the versaboard from a seated position.  I know a guy who fishes off his Versaboard exclusively and loves it - let me know if you want to chat with him about it.

a canoe hybrid would work as well. its open to the elements but you can more easily tell where the wet spots are, and i'm guessing you're going to store it in your garage anyways?

Sit insides are inherently stable as you are sitting lower (usually at or below waterline).

Wilderness Commander (Heavy!)
Native Ultimate 14.5 (60lbs, first class seat so your butt won't be on the bottom of the kayak, nice and comfortable 450 weight capacity) or Ultimate 12 (50ish lbs, first class seat, 350 weight capacity)
Old Town Next

Another alternative is to try and figure out if you can find a kayak manufacturer willing to build you a kayak without cutting out the hatches.  I would imagine they might be willing to do that to save $$$ on the hatch gear.  I would be a little concerned about the kayak expanding and shrinking inside without some sort of vent, although that's more of an issue with thermoforming plastic than traditional poly.

I like this idea.

RE: Frenzy: I had the Frenzy as my first kayak, and hated it. Surprisingly heavy and awkward for its size, and it suffered from terrible tracking. I will give it high marks for being super stable, and that's about it. Awful hull slap, but that probably wouldn't be too much an issue at SC.

On the positive side for your purposes, it had no hatches, just a drain plug at the bottom, and I think I paid $150 for mine.

I'm looking at all the suggestions, but I'm trying to figure out the difference between teh Malibu 2 and Malibu 2 XL.

I'm guessing since I'm taking it solo, there's no need for the XL version?  That the XL mostly helps for two people who want some extra space due to extra length and capacity?
