Hi Jonez. Yes the notched cylinder attaches to the rod. Easily lifts straight off the balancer frame at a strike. I've been using the balancer for the past few years and they really amplify the bite/pump that you would easily miss. Also adjust well with current and rocking.

That's just cool.     I did a set for my boat years back that worked great, but were just ugly!   

A good shop session with no pressure is pretty fine. Your work is stellar!
